I did have some fun with the guy who was sniping when I was buying up the S2 Signature Series timing covers.

He got me once, then I put in a $500 proxy.

I've got the rest of them.

eBay does a marginal job, at best, of preventing fraud and intellectual property violations.

They are in the business of facilitating not impeding ANY sales.

I've had two, our of hundreds, experiences that deviated from good. The first was the kids in Boston who sold me a non-existent Vox guitar pedal. I filed suit in MA Civil Court and that was enough to quickly get the parents attention. The other was a Buell item that caused some problem. The person selling was fired from HD.

Always a lot of fun, always a bit of a crap shoot.

THe only E-Bay pain i get is the incessant E-mails stating my account may be compromised and to provide my info to verify(phishing,i'm sure).

I DID use E-bay once.I was lusting for a Ducati "Mathesis".I was a novice, and was watching it.Near the end of auction,it'd reached $2500.(new,dealers can purchase for $5500).I accidentally(w/o serious thought) clicked "buy it now".I promptly "won" the auction.I now have the complete Ducati diagnostic kit.......But use it very seldom.

"shill bidding is illegal, actively hunted and shut down. there are many layers of algorithms that are checking you, your addresses, your banks, your IP, any circular relationships, etc. in order to stop shill bidding. ebay does not tolerate shill bidding and it should be reported. "

Maybe so but when you repeatedly see the same seller with bids from people with zero feedback it becomes suspicious.

FWIW, I had 5 bids in, placed as soon as I saw the item, and ignored. Got the emails indicating I won all 5 this morning.

I ended up with two 14 tooth sprockets though... I bid on the second (low bid) in case my first got snipped. Neither did, so I have a spare to sell : )

The one I *really* wants has two days to go.

Nice cheap KLR-250 parts!

Dora, you still lurking here? I don't like the fact that I signed up for a PayPal Verisign Hard Token, but that someone could still get into my account without it. I don't really like knowing there is still "another way" in to my account.

I have not used it in awhile, but if it wasn't for Ebay, i would not have a Buell. Last minute bidding war on my '94 VFR gave me the down payment I needed.

the token adds a layer of security, so that you know, when *you* are logging in, that its legit. but sometimes, the token's not on you -- i know that i now have 2 tokens (1 for work, 1 for my main bank, don't have a paypal one), but that i dont keep them on my keychain....

so yes, technically, there is a regular password way in - but it might be a door that you need to use one day. keep vigilant about your browsing and your password and 99.999999 of your troubles go away.

thanks for your business : )
