I can tell you exactly why it's EU only.

The EXCHANGE RATE they can make more dollars per unit selling in Euro.

As I write the buck is at 1.563 to the Euro.

Simple economics.

Nice guess. . . . but I'm afraid we can't give you credit for that answer. The reasons are neither "simple" nor "economics".

Wait, first Court says it'll never fly, and NOW he knows all the intricate reasons it's not being sold in the US?

I'm sure they're not simple Court, else you'd know em, but I'm equally sure that economics is in the mix in no small part.

Air fare from Seattle to NY 349.00
Air fare from NY to London 563.
Couch surfin at buddy's house 2 cases of stout
Purchase of said bike 14999 (plus conversion fees
Shipping back to US 1895.00
Clearing customs (no comment)

Ride home on XR1200 Priceless

I think that kind of purchase program is just what a midlife crisis is made of.

Is it me or are you getting just a tad more cynical in your observations?

Court,

Remember back to your youth when a sportster was the hottest bike available. Some of us never got over that feeling. I paid my way thru college making running british iron out of lumps of motorcycle bits. Every spring I would get em running again. Sportster were for people with real money, workers and rich people.

I will have one again shortly. My favorite was the worst piece of crap, iron head, 4 speed GP shift ever made. Never buy a "breathed on" sprtster from an ex racer. Unfotunately for me, the ex racer was Roger Reiman and his father Hank had "perked it up a mite". Memories of bump starting that 60 hp beast on a slick road makes me truely thankful for that beutiful ULY in the garage. It does not however get me out of the mood for an ill handling pain in the ass sportster.

I've ridden the 1125R and have discovered I am not a person who will ride around on a motorcyle with blue wheels. When/if Harley brings in an XR1200 I will find the money to get one of those too. When Buell comes to their senses and makes some other color choices available I might get an 1125R also.

Sportsters are like S2s, they get under your skin and stay there.

Never did find the "big" bikes to be my cup of tea. And I would only be worried about it if I intended to sell it. I never buy bikes for resale value. I buy them for the itch that needs a scratch. And sometimes it is nice to have it out of the box, rather than to have to piece it together part by part to get what I want. (I have too many of those projects in the air right now) Besides it is a midlife crisis, when were those ever logical or cheap?

I could grab the 2003 XL883R out of the garage, bump the displacement, custom pipes, fiberglass tail piece, XB wheels, XB front forks with ZTL brake, rear sets, wider rear swing arm, sport tank from Stortz, and a custom paint application.... And I am right back to a very over priced sportster and a good year down the road from riding it like that... I already have the Muell project (the dirt bike Buell Didnt/wont build me) the Choppapoolza (Rebel 450 bobberesque) and a Whizzer motor needing to be mated to Schwinn Cruiser frame for a board tracker single. Finishing the 2005 XL883R with wheels, shocks, dash and fork gaiters.... It all just gets to be too much. It would be nice to buy one bike and not have to dump a tonne of money to get what I want.

Picked up my 08 nightster Saturday, owners manual has lots of specs and info on the XR 1200. Almost seems like its available to the general public.

New Sporty is an amazing bike. Handles very well and transmission is at least as good as my 06 ULY. Wildly uncomfortable and nasty as always tho. Buell has never really got that nasty thing right. Always a touch too civilized. First Sporty since 1995 and enjoying it immensly

Just saw the New XR1200 in person last night with MFG plates on it and had a nice discussion with the rider.

In person, it looks much better than the original pics and videos. Additionally, it looks like it will be able to perform as well as my X1 did in the Wisconsin Twisties.

With any luck, I will be the first one in Wisconsin to own one.

PS: Details of our conversation and photo's remain confidential as I caught the gentleman off guard.

Vapor Bike??? I don't think so.
