Free for all, keep it clean

First off, looking for ideas of jobs/careers that don't take a lot to get into, and that pay $50k-$60K per year at least, or $24-$28+ an hour. Nothing super hard labor, but okay if it makes you sweat a little. Retail sales is down low, retail sales management is down low (one place started their manager trainees at $6/hr with a floating no-guarantee shift schedule). So throw out those ideas. I'm still employed, but starting to think it's time to look a bit for opportunities.

And for the jokes, this one is making the rounds in the office today:

quote:

John Smith started the day early having set his
Alarm clock

(MADE IN JAPAN ) for 6am.

While his coffeepot

(MADE IN CHINA )

Was perking, he shaved with his

Electric razor

(MADE IN HONG KONG ).

He put on a

Dress shirt

(MADE IN SRI LANKA ),

Designer jeans

(MADE IN SINGAPORE )

And

Tennis shoes

(MADE IN KOREA )

After cooking his breakfast in his new

Electric skillet

(MADE IN INDIA )

He sat down with his

Calculator

(MADE IN MEXICO )

To see how much he could spend today. After setting his

Watch

(MADE IN TAIWAN )

To the radio

(MADE IN INDIA )

He got in his car

(MADE IN GERMANY )

Filled it with GAS

(from Saudi Arabia )

And continued his search

For a good paying AMERICAN JOB.

At the end

Of yet another discouraging

And fruitless day

Checking his

Computer

(Made In Malaysia ),

John decided to relax for a while.

He put on his sandals

(MADE IN BRAZIL )

Poured himself a glass of

Wine

(MADE IN FRANCE )

And turned on his

TV

(MADE IN INDONESIA ),

And then wondered

Why he can't find

A good paying job

In AMERICA ..

How about $35-$40K per year to deal with low lifes (mostly at their worst), fight with people (but the rules apply only to you), possibly get shot at, nearly get run over and risk being sued everytime you come in contact with people??

You're either describing a job as a school teacher or postal carrier or DMV employee, not sure I'm cut out for those jobs.
A school teacher might be a nice job though, if I got to pick the school district and got immediate tenureship.

11 years ago, I bought a Woodmizer portable sawmill. I used it to supplement my logtrucking business which wasnt doing so good at the time. In 2003, I sold the log truck, bought a fancy new mill, and now I sawmill full time. Make cedar beams for the Americans who are still building fancy upscale homes. I love the work. My son helps me, I sweat like a pig every day, Im 53 and I can eat more that a 20 yearold with out gaining weight....and bein the boss and all, I can go home anytime I want.

Why not become a Seattle Cop? We are so desperate for law enforcement personal that out city is taking ad space out in NYC.

Our starting wage is 2x what NYC pays. Nice huh.

Igneroid,
Neat stuff. My dad used to have a portable sawmill powered by a Honda motorcycle engine. Mostly he just made planks and such, not sure he sold much, mostly for his own use. My mom sold it off about 10 years ago.

Hmmm, http://www.cityofseattle.net/police/jobs/hiring/qu alifications.htm
No maximum age. I grew up near Seattle and spent a fair amount of time wandering around Seattle. Not sure I'm up to being an officer though, all due respect to the career though and those who do it.
