One thing I gotta wonder, why didn;t the guy who spot him stay there till the cops arrived since he knew where the victim was?

I read in another article that 911 told him that he did not have to stay on scene as police were dispatched.

They really didn't say anything about how the 2 they took to jail, looted the guy as he lay there all broken up. They took his wallet and phoned the guy's mother on his cell phone they stole. Then they said she can have the phone back if she brought them some money.

Dallas Police say they will be looking into their policies and procedures to understand why they left without finding the body and to make sure it won't happen again.

Plain and simple...they gave up! Must've been the end of their shift. No new policy and procedure will prevent that.

Pretty messed up on 2 levels.

Perhaps the bike didn't look too bad and they thought that he walked off?
I've seen accidents that made the bike look like hell but the guy walked away and also I have seen pictures of fatal accidents where the bike doesn't look too bad.

It's still pretty sloppy work but hey.

That's sad that so many people just didn't care. I can't really think of anything that would keep me from waiting until the cops got there. They don't say if he died before the caller found him. Ii would take a cold motherf*cker to leave a dying man by the side of the road.

No, just a self-centered one, and there are more than enough people like that in the world. They figure they did their part - hell, they probably figure they did MORE than their part, just by calling in the first place.

...really gives you a warm fuzzy for your fellow man, doesn't it?

Actually, if you read the article, the guy who called it in said he would wait by the next exit for the police to help, but he couldn't stay at that spot because he was afraid he would cause an accident. They say he found the guy with his flashlight, described the location, but the operator told him to go on ahead, everyone would be on their way.

They had this witnesses number, they could have called him back and asked. They knew damn well that no one had picked him up, and I can't imagine, after the 911 call, that they thought he just got up and walked away.

Somewhere between the operator and the police, some details were left out, and absolutely no one bothered following up, until some homeless folks were picking the pockets - now if that was visible from the highway, what does that say about how hard those cops tried?

I probably would have waited too - but some official person saying that it would be OK, everyone will find him, at 2:30am, I don't know, maybe I wouldn't have just sat by the road. I don't know how safe it is.

But I don't think it's fair to disparage the samaritan who called it in. He did more than he HAD to do. The samaritan seemed upset from his quote.

I know I would be a mess if I had seen someone dying, tried to help, trusted that help would come, and then found out that the guy had to wait almost 5 hours for help to arrive.
