Geez - by all commonly accepted formulas, you've already "gained" about a horsepower!

Keep up the good work!

Come join us on the "Lets get it on" Thread.

We have a handful of Large Marge's working to drop a few/a lot of lbs.

I started at 240 then went to 242.5 and have been dropping ever since.
My goal was 200 but I may aim lower.

last saturday i took the plunge and started on nutrisystem.

I've been trying to talk my wife into letting me spend the money on doing nutrisystem. So...do you feel hungry all the time or do the meals make you feel full?

I'm about 5' 11".

many people think it's expensive, i'm not one of those. by using their discount for setting up auto delivery, i got to pick 4 weeks of breakfasts, lunch, snack, dinner and deserts plus an additional free week of food for 319.95. it's kinda a lot to plunk down at once, but when you figure it out over the month it's not bad.

as far as the food, hunger, etc goes. the food is actually pretty good. the only thing i couldn't stand was the pretzels. they were nasty. all the dinners, lunches etc tho have been good.

you also add stuff to the NS food. they give you a meal planner that tells you what to add. it's rather wordy, but if you go to their site it explains it. also in the planner it tells you what you can eat at different types of restaurants when you go out.

i get a little hungry from time to time, but you just gotta tough it out and schedule your eating times right to control it. drink all the water, coffee, tea and diet soda you want. there are "free foods", such as cucumbers, celery, radishes and others that you can chow down on as much as you need.

their website is pretty cool too. you have your own home page to track your process to your goal, and even message boards with a "men's only" section. many very successful "losers" on those boards.

that's all i can think for now.

yes, as long as you use your head. they have a meal planner guide has suggestions for restaurants. tells you how to go about it from a mental perspective, what foods to avoid and which ones to go for. portion control is the key. the restaurant guide covers all types of foods from american, chinese, mexican, italian, french, japanese, seafood, thai and even fast food.

Ya'll all need to get off the Nutrisystem bandwagon. It is easy to eat right, and you can eat better food for 1/2 the price if you do it yourself. Weight watchers, South Beach, Atkins, NutriSystem, they are all gimmicks designed to get you to loose weight by getting money out of your wallet. They all show 3 or 4 "before-and'after" shots of the rare people that get results - what about the tens of thousands that do not? The trick is to change the way you eat. Don't tell yourself "I'm on a diet", because you will immediately start craving all the things you can't have. It's just human nature.

The key is to commit to a lifestyle change. Eat 5 to 6 small meals throughout the day, with good proteins, complex carbs, and fiber. Limit processed foods, sugar, salt, and saturated fats. Learn to read food labels and understand what they are telling you. When you learn to do these things, you will never have to go on a diet again. And, don't forget to exercise. Build some muscle. Muscle burns calories 24/7, even if you are just sitting around. I eat around 4000 calories a day, and I'm 5-10 and 165. Its because I have exercised for 20 plus years and I am a calorie furnace. i have to eat more than I am comfortable doing or I will just waste away.

I wish all of you the best in your weight loss goals. I'm not trying to preach - just trying to help. It is like climbing a mountain - there are hundreds of ways to get to the top. Some take a lot longer than others, some ways will never get you there. If you truly want to get to the top, wouldn't you want to get there the fastest, most efficient way.

I know of what I speak. I own a gym and have helped hundreds of folks loose thousands of pounds over the years. The ones i help tend to keep it off too. If anyone would like to discuss their condition personally, send me a PM. I would love to help.

I push 3,000cal / day of lean protein, complex carbs and veggies for about $60 per week. The diet has plenty of variety and is broken up into 5-6 small meals per day, with saturday and sunday being free days except for breakfasts. Lift 3 days a week for just over and hour each session and do cardio 2 days per week (intervals: jog 2mins, run hard 1min and repeat for about 25mins). I usually end up blowing off one of the cardio days due to work or errands or whatever though.

Don't have the whole grocery list here, but i can do it almost all by memory anyways: 5lb bags of frozen chicken breasts, 1.5lb packages of 96% lean ground beef, a few cans of the good old "chicken of the sea," whatever frozen fish fillets are on sale, potatoes, yams, 100% whole wheat bread, mini bagels, whole wheat rotini, generic cheerios, 100% natural peanut butter, onions, tomatoes, bagged baby spinach, "spring mix" salad, frozen broccoli, peas, and green beans, spaghetti sauce, fat free catalina salad dressing, bananas, apples or pears, 1% cottage cheese, skim milk, and BBQ sauce. Trader Joe's is your friend!

The trade off for shopping cheap is that it its marginally more inconvenient to prepare your own meals. I grill a week's worth of chicken breasts and brown a week's worth of spaghetti meat on Sunday evening, so it only takes a few mins to heat up my meals during the week. Being in a hurry can kill your progress, so keep meal-replacement shakes and bars stashed at work and home so you don't miss a meal!

Sounds like the Tom Venuto "burn the fat feed the muscle" nutrition plan. Not a bad plan, and easy to maintain on a regular basis.

Yeah, the same basic principles (obviously because they work!). Its mostly drawn from Body for Life/MetRx plan, i just dont rely on the shakes/MRPs quite as much. If I want to put on a few lbs of muscle, I up the carbs about 50g/day for a few weeks, if I want to tone down, I drop the carbs off about 50g/day (and try not to miss the cardio sessions).

It's pretty fool proof once you get your metabolism going. The free days keep your body guessing so it never gets too used to anything and begins compensating. If i were really trying to loose weight though, I'd just take one free day per week, not two.

once i've reached my goal, the idea is that i'll have it ingrained in me how to eat properly. i'm not looking at it as a diet, but learning a new way of life. as someone who has struggled with weight for a long time, i've never been more optimistic and determined to succeed.

i'm sure you could do for less by buying the ingredients, measuring everything out and preparing it yourself. that's not me. I'm a truck driver, work long hrs at night. i figure i was spending 12-15 bucks a day on food between fast food, vending machines and grocery store food. the fact the NS food is "grab and go" is what will be the key to success for me.

kilroy and coops have hit on the key points. It is a combination of diet and excercise that gets weight down, and keeps it down in a healthy manner. Regular excercise helps to boost your metabolism, which burns off those calories.
I have been an avid cyclist for about 15 yrs, And I find myself having to make sure I eat enough that I don't lose weight. Which brings me to a suggestion for excercise...sometimes motivating yourself to do a workout can be a chore. Motivating yourself to do a bike ride is easy, especially if you have a good ride lined up. I have found that some of the twisty mountain roads that I enjoy riding on my Litespeed are the same roads I enjoy on my Buell. Getting off the road and doing some mountain biking gives you yet another 2 wheeled adventure. I am starting to ramble...makes me want to go for a ride now.

Badlions- you are right, it's definitely a lifestyle change. I did this same system throughout my summer job during college with the county highway department - basically a truck driver plus some labor. Lets just say i carried a big lunch box!

Though I'm not a truck driver anymore, I leave home at 8:30am and am usually home from work, errands, gym sometime after 10pm - just in time to jump through the shower, wolf down a post-workout MRP, and flop into bed.

As far as prepping meals - maybe 45mins per day in the AM before I leave, plus an hour or so of grilling on Sunday. Its easier than you think!

Just offering my experience though. If cost isnt an issue you should definitely stick with the NS if that works for you. And keep up the good work!

I envy you guys who can eat 3k-5K calories a day. I'm a pretty solid 5'8" 185lbs. I look slender at 175 and sickly at anything less. I exercise regularly but have to keep the cals down to 1500-1800 a day or I gain fat fast.

I used to be like Kilroy and would have to constantly eat until I was uncomfortably full just to maintain my weight. All that was over by my late 20's. Now I'm forced to eat like a petite fem

Hey killroy, you sure your name isn't killJoy? : D

Whatever it takes! Get thin.

One other thing to remember, if you are laying around in the evening and you feel hungry but don't know what you're hungry for, don't eat anything, at that time it means your body is burning excess fat. If you eat then, you are defeating your purpose.
