In my wreck my jeans got shredded and ended up with scratches and a Hematoma Now I wear leather bottoms...Sliders or Draggin jeans for casual riding.... I've noticed mesh jackets have gotten better and better every year, Curious where we will be in 5 years... My JR phoenix ver3 is way different the the new ver6 |

Interesting to hear about mesh jackets tearing as easily as jeans. I have one of the early Joe Rocket Phoenix jackets that I reserve for the really hot days. I've always been leery of crashing in it, but I figured it was better than crashing in a t-shirt. If it really will rip as easily as jeans, it's almost doing nothing at all. I see that newenough.com has the JR Phoenix 4.0 jacket on closeout for $89, it might be time for an upgrade. Is anyone aware of any tests of the various mesh jackets? There is no set abrasion resistance standard, and any jacket claiming one is lying to your face. In the "rocket science" handout that we got from of course, joe rocket, they go over the various components of the jackets, CE armor, outter shell and such. It's interesting To get back to the point, the abrasion resistance is too hard to determine, smooth concrete, dirt, asphalt, rough concrete. concrete with rocks on it etc. You can't really judge how long it will go before it "goes" |

That Joe Rocket jacket is a great deal. Too bad it doesn't have any reflective piping on it. A buddy of mine has a Tour Master mesh jacket that he wears year round. It comes with a rain liner and a warmth liner. It has reflective piping along the seams that is very noticable when I ride behind him at night. It wasn't until I rode behind him one night that I realized how noticable it was. I want to make sure if I buy one that it has similar reflective material somewhere on it. |

I ride with a cheapie mesh in the heat. I figure it's got to do a better job than a t-shirt. On the highway, I go leather. A 35-mph get off in the city I think mesh can handle. 70 mph on the freeway, it's best to go with Bessie, the Heffer. |

The JR pheonix like posted above does have about a foot long reflective pipe across the back. Thats it though. |
