It's bad when any biker dies... We all end up paying for it in some form or another.

I had a close call a bit over a year ago and am still hurting today..
Seeing my family while I was on a Immobilized on back board in hospital was not one of my favorite moments in my life..

If we take anything from this it just how fragile we really are..

At the moment of impact I was thinking, shit this is going to hurt.

I wasn't wrong.
But I was lucky & well equipped.

As most of you know I make my living on the road so I see a lot of what happens, & I have to say, that most of the accidents are caused by innattention & overconfidence.

Also in my experience most American drivers wouldn't last long in Europe without embarking on on a steep learning curve.

Those of you who have driven/ridden here will know what I mean.

Very close to truth. I was very surprised with how the Europeans drove in both the city and the highways. Especially in Italy.

The emphasis is on "most" some adapt well.

There are many non riders who would feel that any of us who , if we were to be hurt or killed, deserved it because we chose to ride a bike at all. I challenge anyone on this board to deny that they have ever done something really stupid at least once while riding and not thought about how lucky you were to get away with it this time. Sometimes, we don't get away with it, and we pay the price. No one deserves to die just because they whacked on the throttle just for the rush like every one of us has done at some point. Rant off.
