Anyone using this combo back/chest protector? From what I can tell, they are one of the lightest but yet higher impact rated protectors around. Only downside I see is that they might be a one time impact item, unlike the T-pro or JR Speedmaster protectors which are definitely multi impact. I use this gear along with the Cross-Sport Shorts under my leathers. No complaints, as it's light weight but still the maximum protection I could find. The only problem is when I got mine last spring, there were no US distributors for Knox (that I was aware of) and took a beating on the exchange rate and the VAT. I also had difficulty with customs getting it into the country. I was interviewed on the phone twice by customs officials. They were under the impression that it was ballistics armor, which apparently an individual can't import. They required me to find out exactly what they were made from and I had to call them back again to be interviewed all over again. I told them it was my new "asphalt surfing suit", but didn't get so much as a snicker. I thought it was funny though. Anyway...good stuff; I'd highly recommend Knox safety gear. | ||

Thanks for the input PP. Customs gave you that much grief over the vest but yet didn't even question the assault rifle on the same order?  Did you have to go up a jacket size to accommodate the extra bulk of the vest? Fat, some of the Dainese 'Wave' and Knox units are considered single impact because of their 'self sacrificing' construction. The single impact pieces are usually made with an aluminum honeycomb or EPS core that is permanently crushed with impact, where the multiple impact capable pieces use nitrile foams and Astrosorb. | ||

Their back/chest protectors are made in part out of a material called, "honeycomb polypropylene core". I don't know that I would reuse it after a hard getoff. I didn't worry about this when I bought mine though because I have insurance for my gear on my bike insurance policy. If I go down and survive, I'll get reimbursed for everything including all the safety equipment (Dairyland "HD" Insurance). | ||

As far as jacket size, I was just able to squeeze everything in. My suit was a little tight to begin with though. Over the year I've been wearing my little power ranger getup, it's stretched out to accommodate the extra girth. Nowadays everything fits like your favorite pair of boots; snug but not too restrictive. The nice part is everything is washable, so you don't have to walk around smelling like your gym socks all the time. | ||

Knox don't seem to have a US distributor, but do have a Canadian one. They will be claiming back the VAT, which is 17.5% in the UK. So if you want stuff in the US you'd probably be best going to them. I'd imagine shipping would be cheaper & easier too. | ||

I just picked up a forcefield BP, and I'm very happy with it, hopefully I'll never have to figure out how well it works. I like how it conforms to my back, very comfortable. Picked it up @ IMS for a decent price. |
