Most of us know that American Sport Bike is one of, if not the best place to get parts for our bikes.

That being said, please heed the following request. I am appealing to all of you on my own, unsolicited. This is very important.

If you have a Buell-related question, please try to get it answered here on BadWeB first, second and third try. If you have to call American Sport Bike to get a question answered, try to remember that American Sport Bike consists of two people, Al and Joanne, who are the nicest and most helpful people you could ever have the pleasure of meeting.

Business is good at American Sport Bike. So good, in fact that Al has been spending 12 to 15 hours a day, six days a week at the shop just filling our orders, and every order is important to Al and Joanne even if you're ordering $2.00 worth. That's the kind of honest and reputable business people they are.

Calling just to ask a question, while it may be the most expedient thing for you, is not helping to get the orders filled and shipped. Al and Joanne do everything themselves. Al loves to answer questions and to help everyone. He'll never complain or let on that the call volume is overwhelming. He'll take your call every time and answer every question.

All I ask is that if you do call, keep in mind that every minute he is on the phone is another minute he is not processing orders and getting them out the door.

I'm hoping he won't think I'm out of line for posting this, but I felt it had to be said. When calling upon the Guru of all things Buell, remember that time is a precious commodity and we need to give him some time for home, family, and of course to ride his bikes.

While his knowledge is godlike, he is truly one of us.

Thank you Al and Joanne, for all you do for us, the Buell community, and especially me personally.

And somewhere out in California the phones stop ringing and two proprietors begin to freak out at the silence....

I bought my crossroads bars, damper, carbon etc... from Al's

I had some questions so I called him, he was very nice and answered my questions...
No this wasn't regarding install of either..

posting my issues here could have been construed as bashing his biz and products thats why I called him to clarify things

I'm sorry people drop a lot of money at Al's why should paying customers have to post here first, that makes no sense..

I think what Pwnzor is trying to say is if you have an honest issue with stuff you bought/ or there services to yes call and talk to the source.
But not to call and ask questions like "how many ft lbs should I torque my drain plug to" Thats what the Badweb is for. (Well the Knowledge vault if you want to get tech)

Al is a top notch guy and always more then helpful . But if we all keep bugging him he won't have enough time left to design new, cooler stuff for us all to drool and pine over.

It's all about RESPECT. I think Pownzer just wants to encourage us to respect their time. If we can get answers on BadWeb, do it here first. But with a genuine need to talk with Al, go for it. I am sure that is what he would say.

+500

I've had barbecue in California and margaritas in Arizona with Al and I believe your statement is true.

He is a great source of information but yes... Please spend some time here first before calling Al.

Excellent post.

I do the same thing as Al with my clients... but I charge $75/hr for it. If I didn't charge for that time I wouldn't make enough money. I figure it's either we give Al some of his time back or he'll raise prices to make it worth while. Actually... I DOUBT that Al would raise prices to make it worth it.

I have an Idea... Lets start an "Al and Joanne need a vacation in Cabo" thread : ). A place where he doesn't even have to think Buells or cool Buell stuff : ). We'll set it up for RIGHT after I get a chance to pick his brain about the finer details of how the ECM's work... Oh wait...

Did something happen for you to have to post this?

Yes, I observed the mayhem as he dutifully answers calls while trying to process orders and pull parts. The phone rings constantly.

I'm sorry people drop a lot of money at Al's why should paying customers have to post here first, that makes no sense..

What I meant is if you just have a question, try to get the answer here first. He gives free information all day long to people who don't buy anything. If you bought something from him, and you have issues, of course call him immediately. I never meant to imply that you shouldn't in that situation.

All I'm saying here people, is that we have an incredibly valuable resource in Al. Let's all help each other by not squandering the resources which we all share.

This has been a public service announcement.

I'm on board with the send Al and Joanne to Cabo scheme. Or Hawaii, or the Caribbean. Or all of the above.

As many of you know I am in a similar business as American Sport Bike and Pwnzor is so right. You wouldn't believe how many calls I get asking about parts that I have not even sold the person. Things like "I bought a power commander off e-bay, how do I install it?"

I try to be nice but sometimes I just want to scream at calls like this!!!

Al is a great person, American Sport Bike is a great company, and he gives out lots of free info. Don't abuse it folks.

Thanks Matt, I appreciate it. Matt stopped by the other day and witnessed the fairly typical chaos of American Sport Bike these days. We really need to hire help, we're broken with just the two of us. We put in new business SW at the beginning of the year, and it holds a lot of promise for improving both our efficiency AND our web site in the long term. But in the short term, productivity has taken a step backwards, and order volume is up. We're keeping up, but barely. I've been working 80 hour weeks now for so long, I'm starting to get a bit cranky, and Matt got to witness some of that behind the scenes crankiness. I try to be cheerful on the phone, it's getting harder : )

One of these days I'll publish a FAQ up on the site. Then I just have to get people to read it instead of just picking up the phone. The problem is finding the time to create it...Sigh.

Thanks for your support, folks.

Al

Excellent post Pwnzor -

I've never been to Al's shop, but I live within a mile of Buelliedan's.

I drop by from time to time to BS, and Dan walks around with his headset on, constantly taking calls with tech questions. I just stick my hands in my pockets and look at the engine parts laying around, or excuse myself 'cause he's up to his eyeballs.

Do some research on your own before taking the easy way out.
Especially if you haven't thrown some $$$ in that direction.

This place and it's constituents amaze me.
