I've backed off ALL THE WAY - UNTIL THE ADJUSTER NUT WON'T TURN ANYMORE - the spring pre-load (can forward) on my rear shock. However, I can not get the 15.25-15.5 measurement for shock length (sag) the service manual specifies.

The reason I backed off the preload was the bike was just hammering in the rear end - beating me to death on the small bumps. Now it rides nicely - much better and smoother than before. I'm a 140 lb rider - sometimes I have my 8 year old Son with me, and sometimes I have on and loaded the bags. 80% of my riding on this bike so far has been just me and the bike though.

The rear height sag is running about 15mm or so - seems about right to me. With that in mind, does it really matter that the 15.25-15.5 shock length dimension is not being met? I noticed after a 100 mile ride that the shock is making a bit of rubbery/squeaking noise - like a bumper with no tension on it. Maybe I need to turn up the preload just a tiny bit?

The other thing is the belt rubbed on top of the swingarm just as it passes over the front corner of the swingarm headed for the front pulley. Further back on the top of the swingarm I can see witness marks from the belt touching - this is happening during breaking when there is likely less tension or slack in the top lat of the belt. Too much sag? Would that allow the belt to contact the swingarm? Sees like very close clearance in that area to begin with.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dennis
