Figured I'd at least check... anything special I have to do with the suspension on a long haul with an XB on a trailer?? | ||

Make sure it's compressed a bit... otherwise when you hit an upwards bump, the suspension might compress itself, loosen the tiedown momentarily and let the bike hop around a bit. | ||

Make sure you loop or mechanically fasten the tiedowns to the bike and trailer connection, the Uly has long travel and it will bounce, which could allow a tiedown to "unhook" and the bike is loose  Don't know how I can tell this..... | ||

Coolice, Thanks for the refresher! I am hauling the Uly to March Badness on Wednesday night. Must remember to loop all 4 tie down points~ Check!!! | ||

Couple of more tips: 1. Recheck the tie downs after a half hour or so - nylon will slowly stretch initially. Engineers call it creep. 2. Don't put so much tension that there is absolutely no movement in the suspension. This is said to lead to possible seal damage. 3. I lock my hitch to my car, and my trailer to the hitch. Then I run a vinyl coated cable from the bike to the hitch lock. Makes it slightly more likely that the bike and trailer will be in the motel parking lot in the morning. 4. I use short, 12" nylon double loops between the tie downs and the bike. Makes it easier to attach the tie downs without damaging the finish on the bike. 5. I keep all of this clobber in one bag so when it is time to travel, all I have to do is remember where the bag is.  | ||

Yeah, had an experience with that yesterday on my test run - thank god for good wheel chocks! Thanks for all the ideas!! luckily the vinyl coated cable can be tied directly to the trailer - the trailer is rather... hefty per se lol |
