I still have WOOD!!!!!!

I was a local dealer looking at dirt bikes.. They actually carry a good bit of aprilia's I counted 10 bikes anyways

They have a 08 RSV 1000 R, Marked down to 11,999 the bike is Sex on Wheels.. Talked to the Sales Guy for a while and he said they would do sales tax...

I know a little about the brand, this thing has Ohlins suspension and brembo brakes not sure this years motor is still rotax..I had planned on waiting until prices for an 1125 went down.. I have long night of thinking..

Please don't hate..For you neutral guys out there what do you think of the bike..

I believe it's still the 60* V-Twin. Excellent motor, great bike.

Price sounds pretty good if they are going to do sales tax.

What's not to love?

I believe, based upon what the Rotax guys have stated, that the 72* Rotax is a better engine.

You are buying the last or near last model on a bike that has all the bugs worked out vs. the first year of a bike that hasn't had all the bugs worked out.

I don't know what that is worth to you (this coming from a guy who owns an 06 Uly).

i think they're a good looking bike. they're kinda buell like in that they're not every where. if you like it go for it. if it were me i'd ride that and the 1125r and buy whatever i liked the best.

With the minimal exposure I've had to those, I've only sat on a few at the dealership. The riding stance couldn't be more different even though they're both sport bikes and they redline at some God-awful number IIRC, something like 11 or 12K. The thing I remember the most is how far the gas tank seemed to sit back in my gut. It is a drop dead sexy bike. I remember reading somewhere about the maintenance issues about two years into them, don't know how easy they'd be to work on in the garage, but I'm sure they also have a gathering place but remember nobody can be as helpful as the Badwebbers.

After I posted that last post it sounded as though I was dogging them. Not in the least, it is a beautiful machine, I agree with Badlion, ride 'em both in a demo and let the cards fall where they may. That does sound like a good price from what I remember at the dealer, I think I hyperventilated a time or two looking at the prices on them.

They are pretty easy to maintain from what I've heard in talking with other Aprilia owners.

You will have to get used to having those gigantic cans hanging up in the air.

Maybe they have a twin GP megaphone set-up you can utilize. : D

yup, so used to the exhaust on buells, other bikes look weird with the "traditional" sport bike exhaust.

There is a Factory Version that is 17K

This bike's MSRP is 14K, They had a slew of bikes other bikes through out the store that where marked down 2K... This is one of those mega import dealerships probably like 200+ bikes including 4 wheelers and dirt bikes..

I do my Most my own wrenching.. I'm going to check insurance rates as well. I know the 1125 are pretty decent insurance price wise.

Awesome bike

I know a guy that has one, and he has nothing but praise for it... especially the engine. It was on my short list when I bought my firebolt, I just couldn't afford the Aprilia at the time.

Ted,

How's the service dept? I know you like to do your own work, but if there was something that you needed from them or had a warranty issue, would it be a challenge to work with them?

That is one of the things that would keep me from getting one locally. There is no local dealer service where I live.

I don't know if you plan to finance, but I do know that Aprilia is running 6.99% for 48 months on the 06-08 RSVs.

I'm sure it is a nice bike, but if you think you have little dealer support with the Buell, I think the Aprilia will be even worse. Or at least it would for me. There just aren't any Aprilia dealers around here and my searches on the net haven't turned up much in the way of support. It sounds like you have a dealer close to you though, so as long as you don't travel on the bike that may be a non-issue for you. I have thought about the Tuono, but decided against it because there just isn't a dealer anywhere near me in case I needed something done. Plus, I like to travel and I don't there there are many Aprilia dealers around period. While I like the idea of owning something not everyone else has, I do want some dealer support.

None of that may matter to you though and I am sure it is a sweet bike. Good luck.

Yeah, but you can get your Rotax engine serviced anywhere you can get a Rotax engine serviced, BRP, Ski-Doo, Sea-Doo, Snowmobile, Spyder, etc.

That is probably one of the BEST features of this particular model. In a pinch, a qualified Rotax mechanic could probably help you out.

Much of the other components are shared with other bikes, Brembo brakes, chain, sprokets, etc.

I had a Falco. It was a great bike, reliable and exotic, with a very nice engine. Unfortunately, support from Aprilia is not super. I had an accident & it took months to get the parts to make the repairs. Other than that I was happy with the bike. I would make sure that I had a good dealer that understood these bikes. The engines are pretty complex, so if you are planning on doing your own work make sure you know what you are getting into. For the older V60 engines there is quite a bit of help online. I don't think the newer engines are much different in that respect.

I have ridden both the 1125R and the Aprilia Mille R.

My advice would be to get the Buell, no doubt about it.

The Aprilia is a beautiful, well made and reliable bike.
The problems with it are:
1. It isn't much fun to ride. It is big and heavy, and sort of old school. My buddy Gerry who owns the one I ride, just doesn't like it much, and usually rides his GXR 600, which he says is more fun in the tight stuff. Daves used own one, same story.
The ergonomics are pure Italian racing, and as such, I really can't wait to get off it after ten minutes. I am 6-2"
so that doesn't help.
2. Parts and service have ranged from poor to non existent. The company verged on bankruptcy, then was bought by Piaggo, so things may have improved. Not sure if they have a parts warehouse in the USA.

On the other hand, the Buell is a great handling , fun ride with better brakes, slipper clutch, improved motor, and much better ergos for everyday riding.

Normally Buell parts are easily available and reasonably priced, even though few Harley dealers are competent to work on them.

I would go for the Buell in a heartbeat.

WOW.They don't offer Brembo or Ohlins quality components on Buells.Though the new ZTL-II is pretty trick.

If I were TeddaGreek, and i were going to KEEP my current Buell whilst parking a NEW Aprilia NEXT TO my Buell. It'd be a no brainer.I'd buy the Aprilia.Variety IS the spice of life.

Wrenching an Italian cycle? I managed to dismantle/re-assemble one on a few occasions so far.No biggie

Goofy exhaust cans? My 996 has them under the seat....In CARBON FIBER.There are ways to improve those Aprilia cans if they're a problem.

Right now,i wouldn't TOUCH an 1125r if i were in the market.TOO NEW

Aprilia had demo bikes at a track day I attended last year. I took one like that out, and did not like it at all. The tank pushed BIG TIME into your gut, and the position of your belly and your hands made for a very horizontal upper back. I couldn't tilt my head far enough back to see down the track. The back of my helmet was touching my back protector because my head was rocked so far back.

I'll chock it up to me having the wrong body shape for the bike. But I sure couldn't see riding one for a long time.

Engine pulled nicely, and it handled fine. I couldn't use the rear brake at all, but didn't really need to.

If you really want the 1125R, WAIT!
Unless it is something that you won't
need to depend on.

Although this is from my experience,
many others will signify otherwise...

It shoud be quite a deal - about 1980's prices to match the colour scheme.

Take it out for a Demo Ride. Then take an 1125 out. Buy the one that talks to you best.
A Demo ride stopped me from making a terrible and expensive mistake once. Another Demo ride made me fall in love with Buells.
I bet that after riding both you'll know which one is right for you.

I gotta go with the demo ride as well. Hopefully it's a possibility.

I haven't ridden one, nor an 1125R, but i've heard that motor on the Aprilia is rather flat feeling, and doesn't seem to make big power anywhere.

Like I said, can't speak from eperience, so I would really try to ride it before I decided.

Had the Sales guy call me today and I Gracefully Bowed out...... I did a lot of research this weekend and its a Very Solid Bike...
This may be the last year before the Redo. I guess a lot of stuff is in the works including a model with a V4..

Great Bike, Expensive insurance compared to my buell.. Dealer support was minor influence but still a factor.
Going wait it out for 09..My bike will be paid off. Love the 1125r but I'll wait for year 2 if I go that route...

I also enjoyed the Non Harley Davidson way of sales..

Thanks every one for the input..

BTW I'm demoing a 1125 in two weeks..

That Aprilia is still one of my favorite looking and for sure the best sounding motorcycle. The people I ride with the most have an RC-51, a Duc 998 and the Aprilia RSV R all of which a great looking and sounding bikes but I intentionally ride behind the Aprilia on group rides just for the sound. It is heaven.
