We've had the worm infect the network at work that has been an absolute nightmare. I had tests done for a lump I found last week that they thought could be cancer (I've had tumors in my ulnor(sp?) nerve tunnel before). We're having IBM HDD failures for the past two months. School started this week (My boys are 8,12,&14)}. I've had a headache for the past three days.

So, I'm on the way home this afternoon in good ol' Atlanta traffic, and I'm stuck in the worst traffic jam this week. When traffic lets up a little and the traffic starts to move...except me...I ain't goin' nowhere! WHAT?! It's changin' gears...The engine's running...OH $#!T the belt broke on I-85 and I'm only goin' nowhere!

Now for the good news.
Tomorrow is Friday and I only have to work a half day.
The tests came back today, and I don't have cancer. Simple out patient surgery.
After I pulled to the emergency lane. Took off my helmet, noticed my cell was dead, wondering what I was to do...I heard the loudest noise...It was a guy on a Blast! So, this guy stops asks if he can ride me to a phone, at the same time a bright yellow pick up stops and asks if he can carry me and the bike somewhere safe! So, the three of us lift the XB into the truck, I thank the kid on the Blast! shake his hand and he rides off. The guy in the truck didn't just take me to safety, he took me all the way to my wife's work! My faith in humanity is restored once again!
Now for the kicker...the local HD/Buell shop has a belt IN STOCK!
What a week it's been...
and it's not over yet...
But it looks as though it'll be alright!

how many miles on the belt?

Faith in Humanity...Part 1
On my Harley, Sevierville, Tennesee, just north of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Bike dies about 24 miles from my hotel room. I'm getting hooked up to a tow truck about to get towed into Greenville, NC (closer to my destination of Charleston, SC),. Guy in a POS Toyota stops and starts asking questions about whats wrong with the bike. I tell him I think the coil is shot. He proceeds to whoop out a voltmeter to test the coil, and checks the plugs and whatnot on the spot. Turns out he owns a chopper shop, Scorpion Cycles, just a mile or 2 up the road.
He opened his shop on a Sunday morning to get me back on the road. Rolled me in the front door, "borrowed" a coil off a customers bike and slapped it on mine. Turns out the ignition wires were the problem. Wires inside the boot were broken (darn tight wiring harness pulling them out of the boot),
He was on the way to work on a friends car when he saw me getting hooked up to the tow truck. Saw my luggage and figured I wasn't a local. Said he couldn't just leave me stranded.
I paid for his services (VERY reasonable.) Before I left, he throws me a new t-shirt for my trouble.

Bad news is that the new ignition wire connections lasted 40 and 100 miles respectivley. Fixed them on the roadside with medical tape from my first aid kit. Did a solid fix in SC before my return trip.

Faith...Part II

In Mobile, Alabama when I pick up a large screw in my back tire. Too large a hole to patch with a plug. Just happened to get the flat within sight of a Mobile Bay Harley Davidson billboard. I'm getting worried. A hurricane is moving up the Gulf, it's a Saturday. I'm gonna be in trouble if I have to wait till Tuesday to get a tire. I call up the dealership, tell them I need a tire, they say bring it by.
I'm back on the road WITHIN AN HOUR after I bring the bike in. :) Thanks Mobile Bay HD!

6235 on the belt.
But I believe I'm the reason the belt broke, no Buell's. This past weekend I put new tires on the bike. I took the wheels off at home to save the cost. When I was putting the wheel back on I believe I tweeked the belt.
I've been helped before, just not to this extent. All in all, from the time I realized the belt was broke, the the time I arrived at Ann's work was less than 45 minutes, wouldn't have taken that long if it weren't for traffic...
there's a light at the end of the tunnel...and I don't think it's a train. 8^)

i was very lucky(and unlucky) last week, i melted a piston on my way home from work on I195 i thought i ran outta gas, switched to reserve and nothing! so i started pushin, not five minutes went by when the guy who fixes the computers at work pulls over, he had a buddy close by with a van and he was on the way! while we were waiting for the van to come, a fine chick pulls over with a flat so we switched her tire like a pit crew and had her on her way just as the van pulled up,
the guy with the van took my bike and myself safely home, now i just have to deal with my motor, thumbs up for humanity though!!

Bummer Tripp!
It really is neat how things turn out when decent folks are around.
Maybe time for a 1250 kit?
