Been looking for one of these mounts for about a year now. Just like the one on Bads1 bike(place pic if you would dana) but im having no luck. Anyone have a clue where to find one, or how to make one. Im willing to fork out some cheese for one... well maybe not wisconsin cheese, but more like velveeta.. ok that was strange. anyways, since i know there are none to be found, WHO WANTS TO MAKE ONE? i know im not the only one who would love to have one! Man,I wish I could help you guy's out. My buddy is one hell of a fabricator. Problem is he doesn't have much time for anything like this. I even begged him. |

Zip I really don't know. Lots of Choppers have them. Sportbikes are starting to really catch on with them. I did incorporate the original light from the cheese grater. So it is lit. |

Bads1, could you maybe put up some more pics of that thing? Like from the side and below maybe? I might just see about whipping up one for myself |

yeah im also thinking im going to have to fab one up myself. Bads, what is it connected to? i thought it was on the inside of the swing arm connected to the axle, but looks like it might be attached to the swingarm itself. |

looks like he got longer bolts for the caliper mount and used that to mount it. |

It must be legal, it's factory on the Harley Nightster. I think the only law is that it must be visible from behind. |

I believe it must be oriented correctly (right side up, not sideways), and I don't think you're allowed to bend it. |

Careful, they are illegal and are a reason to get pulled over by the fuzz. |

The plate on the nightster is oriented correctly and flat. |

+1 to Xl1200r and Beachbuell, it's usually illegal. the Nightster just has the plate on the left side of the bike but positioned correctly. angled, turned and un-lit can get you attention and sometimes a ticket. i have a warning on file in CT for having my plate angled a little, but still in a horizontal position. Officer Awesome informed me I will be ticketed next time.. . |

The plate holder on a Nightster will also fold down if you lowside or drop the bike on the left. Be careful where you put your plate. The sharp sides can cut you to the bone if you have to bail off the back (anything is possible). Your femoral artery could be cut and you could bleed to death fairly quickly. Just be careful and cognizant of this. |

Quote from cycleworld: Side-mount license-plate holder folds flush. Legal in all 50 states, says Harley. Arrange it like the nightster, and all is legal.

Hmmmmmm... From what I understand, the plate must be equally visible from either side of the bike. Mounting it on the side negates that. It would definitely come in handy in those municipalities with those damned red light cameras. They photograph your vehicle from the right rear, which means a license plate hung on the left side hidden by the rear wheel on the right would slip right past those things... |

i see side mounted plates like bads1 All the time here in Indiana. Every chopper going down the road has them. Might make me more prone to getting pulled over. i just dont like the look of the plate on the newly cut fender. i need to find a different place for it |

Iron Horse Choppers are a mass produced bike. They incorporate bent plates like mine. Up right and side way's. The plate must be lit. I've had zero problems. |

Just wait. As redlight cameras become more and more popular, you're going to see laws passed that will force the plate to be more centrally located and readable. I can almost GUARANTEE it. |

The photos on American Iron Horse don't show the plates well, but there are two model where you can see that the plate is oriented correctly and not curved. Technically, you're not even allowed to put a plate frame on that covers ANY part of the plate itself. I can't fathom them letting you mount it crooked or curved. I've never been pulled over for speeding, but that doesn't mean it's legal. |

You guys debate all you need to. This is not what the thread was about. If its legal or not I don't care. Also that means half of this forum with cut cheese graters are not correct either. I'll deal with it when that time comes. I also have two neighbors that are trooper and city cop. Nothing ever said and they see the bike all the time. They'd let me know if it was a problem that they thought I'd get pinched for. |

Just to comment on this - I have a side mount plate on my Harley. It is rotated so the plate stands on it's side. In this state (washington) it is not legal to rotate the plate. Technically, I could get stopped and fined if the fuzz wanted to hassle me. My advice, if you do rotate your plate, ride less squiddly, you'll be fine. |

Bads1 - you think you could take some measurements of that bad boy? Just got my welder and I'm looking for a small project, looks simple enough, just wanted a starting point. I'll post a pic when it's finished. |
