I have an 06 Uly and the fan sounds like a small stone is rattling around in it. The bearing is going bad right? The dealer told me " it just needs a little grease or something". I said it was a known issue that these fans go bad and I would like to get it warrantied. I really didn't get an answer, just a blank look. I didn't press the issue as it's like kicking a dead horse. How bad does the fan have to sound to get it repaired under warranty?

I have an 06 Uly and I had a engine light come on briefly (less than 10 Seconds). The guys at the Seminole Buell Shop checked it out with the computer diagnostic system and it turned out to be a over-voltage signal from the fan that caused the warning light to come on. They replaced the fan under warranty without any problem.

Andre, I had the same issue with my fan about a month before my warranty expired. My dealership replaced it no questions asked. I bought a spare on eBay, but didn't need it. I'm hanging on to it "Just in Case."

Thanks. I was going to call today. I was just trying to get some feedback from you all. I did find a dime next to a fire hydrant once.

The fan on my '06 Ulysses has the death rattle too. With just over 10k on the bike, the fan has been like that for about 3000 miles. My bike is out of warranty, so I am waiting for it to fail completely before seeking assistance.

Yeah, I laughed too. I had it in there to take care of recalls and figured I'd have them do the fan too. No luck. I even tried to buy some Buell stuff from them while I was there to support Buell. The answer I got was " we used to have some t shirts in the back, but I think they are gone". Oh, well. I love my Buell and Buell CS has helped me numerous times. Other than dealer support, I can't complain a bit. Just the nature of the beast.

The wife's CityX had the exact same problem. Hals replaced the fan and the rusty muffler under warranty earlier this year without question.

I had the same fan problem. They last a long time even if they sound like crap. Mine made that noise for about a year and a half before I brought it in. I got it to them right before the original warranty was up and they didn't hassle me at all.

Blinker fluid must be low... it can make your fan sound funny, believe it or not.

Could be the muffler bearing making the noise.

Make sure the dipstick dealer uses high temp grease......

I think he was greasing me! I'll just buy a spare in case it goes. If the original gets to sound bad, I'll take it in. The less I have to deal with any dealer the better. $60 and some time is cheaper than it would be to drive the 8 hour round trip to the dealer anyway.

Thanks for the replies.

Andrejs:

My bet is that your dealer knows little or nothing about Buells, common issues or Buell policies and processes . .. call it a hunch.

If I were you, I'd give Buell Customer Service a ring. Be sure to follow my previous "polite, courteous and respectful" guidelines and I'll bet you'll be thrilled.

Court

(since I now know they are word searching badweb for "Court" and "Customer Service" every morning . . .. )

They are bound and determined to put me out of business and I could not be more thrilled.

: )

gotta be careful with that muffler bearing one..... the right person such as myself just might bring you a box of them... as there are a few cars (lexus and toyota) that do have a part called a muffler bearing... its a rubber hanger that has a bearing at the end of it as to allow motion to the exhaust
