Opinions on whether it is worth it to join BRAG, please. If yes, why? If no, why?

Is there any specific way to find out feedback about Buell dealers on the board? I can find satisfaction poll results, but they don't specify which dealer they are referring to. My two nearest dealers are both 2 hours away and I'd like to have some idea of how they 'treat' Buell owners before I waste my time to go to one who looks at me like more off an ass pain than a customer.

The bike I just bought ('03 Bolt repo from Harley Credit) needs both the wheel bearing and sidestand 'upgrades' and I'm guessing that a dealer will not just give me the parts and let me do it myself..........

Thanks for any and all input,
Pete

A BRAG membership gets you 1 tow service per year (new in 2003), up to $100. A BRAG membership also can get you a discount on motorcycle insurance, depending on the carrier. I am a national BRAG member and a member of a locally dealership-sponsored BRAG group. By attending the monthly BRAG meetings, I get 10% off parts and service one visit a month. The membership pays for itself. I am a HOG member also, pretty much the same as BRAG, so a can vouch that they really do pay for towing. (put them to the test in Sevierville, TN in July on my Harley)

As for the dealership, I'd talk to guys in the service dept. at both. Tell 'em you're gonna need to get the recalls done. They get paid by Buell to do the work, I wouldn't suspect it to be a problem. Let them know you're that your looking for a dealership to call home. If they are willing to work on your bike in a reliable and timely fashion, you'll be spending lots of money there in the future on a race-kit, t-shirts, and chrome heel guards ;)

I would say there is no way in hell they will cough up the recall parts to you to do your own service. I tried to do the same thing with all 3 of the Denver area dealers to no avail.

Welcome to the club and good luck!

Pete,
It helps some to state where you're located so any locals reading this will know. Your profile states:
City: Syracuse/Binghamton area
State/Province: NY

There are several people on the site in the greater NY region, including NJ, and other areas around there like CT. One of them should be able to speak on which dealership to avoid and which to see.

Pete,
I'm in Rochester, but I grew up in Syracuse. I've tried the following

Jamestown, (JamesTown Harley): Good, but far away

Rochester (Cycle Stop): Parts okay, service blows

Binghamton (SouthernTier): Shop did good work,
but they take a long time to get stuff done

I haven't been to performance HD in Syracuse, so I'll await your review

I've also been to a couple places in Ohio and in general, I've discovered that Buell Service is bad. Its rare to find a dealer that has parts, or has time to do the work, its really strange to find one that has both.

You'll do much better to do the work yourself and buy your parts from DaveS (see the adds on this page for Buell Cycle Center in Iowa) or Jenny at HalesHD in Mansfield Ohio. They have better prices, better customer service, and actually seem to be glad you're doing business with them.

Blake has done a great job with this board as have the people who use it. With the info on the board, the service manual, help from the people on this board, and parts from the board sponsors, you'll do well.

Matt
