hip hop hoooooray!

just bought a new place for me, the jeeps/motorcycles, and the dog. will be glad to get out of corporate housing and into my own place - and start consolidating my stuff from beijing china, milwaukee, WI and lubbock TX into 1 address.

its in downtown san francisco, 2 blocks north of a great park where i can throw tennis balls for my dog, and 3 blocks west of where i catch the shuttle to work!

its a 2 unit victorian, built in 1900, i have the lower floor (the door to the left), and the neighbor has the upper floor (the door to the right, leading upstairs), and we share the garage and garden.

take a peek at my newest moneypit (other than my jeep/motorcycle/dog/travel/restaurant habits!)

D

I'll have to come check it out then escort you out my way to some really nice twisty roads.

And some really crappy, bumpy, potholed but still very twisty roads too : D

Nice house! Jeep? Buell? Dog? Do you like chubby white guys who look sorta like Drew Carey?

The benefit to a house with no windows on the ground floor and a fenced in back yard is that you're pretty safe from a zombie attack. With the garden, you're pretty sustainable for the long haul. Sorry, I've been at work for 16 hours... Stupid brain wandering...

great looking place dora, looks like it came out of home and garden. the important question is, how much room do you have in the garage for the toys. i know if i bought another place it would just be a big garage with a loft above it or something of that nature.

it costs a massive amount there also. you can be certain that it's pretty pricey in that part of the world also.

Nice looking place - looks like there's enough room to work on TWO motorcycles in the living/dining room.

I have found that using plywood on the carpet or flooring with a sheet of drywall on top of it will keep oil off the floor and prevent marking. The drywall absorbs all but the worst of spills and when you're done, can be busted up and tossed out. Open window and a fan keeps the fumes from building up.

I'd say you can do some serious moto-work right there in your living space!

...oh wait a minute, you said you don't rent, you OWN the place! ... (oh, nevermind) ; )

Seriously schweet! Congratulations - it looks like you may finally be able to get a place to consolidate stuff! Don't lose the Dora the Explora mystique though, EVER.

Remember, if god had wanted us to stay put, we'd be trees... (OK, I'm a bad example)

When's your housewarming PAAARRR-TAYY???

rex - let me move me and make friends before all my "biker friends" show up as a mob! : ) but yes, having an event/cookout/whatever at my house *is* a future option... and OF COURSE i get the garage, well part of the garage because my neighbor also parks her car there!

wile- thank you.

thumper - i hadn't thought about the no ground floor windows/fenced in yard thing and its zombie-proof qualities! but thank you. sheesh i like it even more now!

black- thank you.

jlnance - next time you're in town, please stop by!

dbird (and lori) - thanks, and hello! yes, neighbor has a car. a boring car. some mid-size sedan thing. i'm sure she'll be *thrilled* once she realizes the moto-freak that just became her neighbor....

never - i can def fit 1.5 car lengths in. the big question is if i can convince my neighbor to let me try squeezing a short jeep (wrangler) and a long jeep (cherokee) inside at the same time, as long as there's room for her car. there is enough width on the sides for my motorbike(s). although i'd love to have a bigger garage/loft/storage, this is about as good as it gets in downtown san francisco!

mtch - me too. i hadnt noticed the slick in-person. i think its gone now. it was a pretty penny here too!

boese - a lift? hmmm. if i didnt need the 2nd bedroom in back, then maybe....i could go through the ceiling and into my house!

never (again) - indeed, a pretty penny. but you can't buy charm and culture no matter what you pay in some parts of the world. location, location, location.

bcord - thanks. and there are SOOOO many awesome restaurants. which is great for me, because i don't cook. eating out is survival for me.

mtch - check these 2 out. this is what living "near" water means in SF. not even "on" the water.

slaughter - will be working on stuff in the garage -- not my living room! though i will admit that i've had axles in my living room and have painted driveshafts in my bedroom before...it will be great to consolidate my stuff in one place, but i *am* dora the explorer, so don't you worry! if i'm the opposite of a tree, what am i? a eert? its now my 11th city. party should be sometime in april?

bluz - thank you. just landed in USA at christmas. got to SF on 1/1 and started work at eBay Motors 1/2.

spidy - thanks. and no, no danny tanner!

oldog - thank you.

whew!

off for a little buell time,
D

Buellgirlie,

What a beautiful place ! According to your profile, you were 4 years old when my wife and I visited San Fran on our honeymoon. Probably the most beautiful city I have ever visited. Great looking place. Hope to get back there again before I croak and ride some of the great California roads. Not looking for an old married guy to share the house with are you?

you are no doupt in a great location dora. when i was up in ukiah a few years ago, i spent the weekend with my brother during the forth of july and one of the days we took the bart down town and i was in awe the whole time walking around down there. if i didn't know better, i'd say you had a very charmed life with all the things you get to do. once again, it looks like you got a place out of home and garden there, enjoy.

Dora,

I lived on 8th Avenue just off of Judah until I went in the Navy in 1965. I'm guessing your place is probably in the Sunset or Richmond district.

The two story flats around where I lived on 8th Avenue were selling for $15,000 and up when I lived there. I wish I could have found some way to buy several of them...

I never got back to The City to live but did spend my last 15 years as a Californian up in Sonoma. I still consider San Francisco about the only major city in the U.S. I'd consider living in. It was a great place to live and and quick and easy to get out of.

Have you checked out The Sunday Morning Ride from over in Marin County, up to Point Reyes yet? Then take Petaluma Road and Lucas Valley Road back over US 101 and back to The City. Only about 70 miles or so but it's a great ride.

I made my last Sunday Morning Ride in about 1964 and still think back on it fondly. Don't get suckered into racing until you have made the ride a time or two. Or ever if you just want to enjoy the ride and the scenery. Jim Monroe of Monroe Motors gave me the best advice the first time I showed up for the ride on my '58 Triumph Thunderbird. He said "ride at the speed you are comfortable with, hold your line, and don't try to be helpful to people riding faster." It worked out great, there were some real "berserkers" that showed for that ride.

Jack
