These are all incredible pics. Reep, I need a pic of myself like that one - that's amazing. I'm going to the Gap for a week in April - getting a pic like that is my goal somehow...

I need an XT,
Then a lot of freetime,
Then gas, tire, and food money...
Then directions to about every location pictured above.

Jeesh.

Death Valley (near Badwater), California.

Jerry, do you by chance have this photo in a larger format?

I would love to see it in its original form. It just looks mystical with the salt flats out there.

Could you PM it to me?

Ready to go to 'Buell Days'
(OK it's not a lonesome road, it's my yard but I went on my own.)

Taken near Deals Gap '05,

Jerry

If you make it up the BC way again, let me know. I was supposed to do the Lillooet - Duffy Lake ride with my dad last summer but didn't happen. The Sea to Sky highway has been seriously massaged gearing up for the 2010 Winter Olympics. It is very fast now and has even more unskilled thrill seekers than ever (cagers and two wheelers).

You all have inspired me to bring my camera on the next road trip.

Why would you make that section of road 25mph? Just so it would take you 30 minutes to get to the horizion?

Bcool, there are a couple of professional groups shooting at the gap during most of the peak season... killboy (www.killboy.com) and Zee photo (http://www.zeefoto.com/). Both do a great job.

thx Freezerburn, much appreciated. Sea-to-Sky was always hit or miss on traffic, but once we cleared Whistler things always got better.

do you know about the annual SPLASH and Border Raid rides?

Why would you make that section of road 25mph?

Jim, it's coming into a park. in fact, i'm not totally sure the road goes thru. after i snapped these pix i u-turned back out to the main highway and continued my journey (601 miles this particular day) home.

Sanchez, nice pix (heck, nice pix EVERYBODY), it's sure fun to see our new home thru someone else's eyes. : )

Freezerburn:

SPLASH (SPort Lap Around St. Helens), a ride i started in 1998 (offshoot of '97's Blue Groove/Northwest with Erik Buell), 10th anniversary of SPLASH this year (wow!), coming up in late July, basically a very spirited three-day weekend ride around Mount St. Helens, attended each year by (among others) a core group of Canadians, mostly from your neck of the woods.

link: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=37&post=1053362#POST1053362

the Border Raid is another ride i started (also in '98? yikes, how time flies), wherein a bunch of frisky Americans invade British Columbia and proceed to ride and party their brains out with their Canadian brother and sisters.

SPLASH brings the Canadians to America, and the Border Raid brings the Americans to Canada.

we used to head straight for Deeley's in Vancouver, eat, and get a guided tour of the place by Stuart Wells, and then head out to Richmond and get a free, private guided tour of the Trev Deeley Motorcycle Museum, and then scald the Sea-to-Sky up to Whistler, takeover the Blackcomb Lodge, and crank the night away.

the guys and gals have changed up the itinery here and there over the years, which is way cool, and quite often it's the same groups of Canadians coming down for SPLASH and Americans going up for the Border Raid year after year, so a lot of these folks have become very, very good friends.

these people, Canadians and Americans alike, are the absolute best, and will treat you like family.

i'm not finding a Border Raid thread in the Storm Fronts. ping Loni on the SPLASH link above, tell her Ferris sent you, and she can fill you in.

sorry for the thread jack, folks.

I know Stuart. I bought mine and the wife's ride from him. He also has my stock can from my XB that he needed for his race bike. I also have two friends that work at Deeley in Richmond. I often hook up Deeley staff at the bar I work at so hopefully I'll see some of you for the Border Raid.

I would love to make SPLASH but this year we have a family function at that time.

Hey Cityxslicker, no bringing any foreign soil across the line. They might have to confiscate that orange mudhog of yours.

WAIT WAIT WAIT!

282 Feet = 85.9536 Meters
855 Meters = 2805.11811 Feet

Is there a decimal in that picture I can't see or something?

looking down on California's Highway 49 - the Gold Rush Highway - and Lake McClure.

this photo was taken from a viewpoint on 49 before beginning the twisty descent down to the lake, i.e. this is a dream road for folks of the riderish kind.
