Well, my M2 stranded me this afternoon. I was on my way to a meeting, and the ignition started cutting out, then completely gone..... I had to call for a quick pickup (me, not the bike) to make it to my meeting. I have suspicions that the cuplrit is the wonderful kick stand switch.... Is this how it happens? Does the entire ignition go out when this switch dies? Assuming that is the problem, I was planning on going back to the bike this afternoon and cutting the wires and twisting them together to bypass the switch..... What do you guys think?

Mine never developed a solid failure, only intermittent and very brief engine cut-off problems. In any event, I would not hesitate bypassing the suspected switch. You can cut and twist wires, however, there is a connector (if you can reach it easily) where you can just insert a shunt wire to preserve everything just in case it's not the switch. |

Bonkur... the kickstand switch is effectively the same as the ignition cutout switch. It is to keep you from driving away with the sidestand deployed, which could highside you on your first left turn. Kickstand out, clutch released, engine stops, just like you hit the kill switch. So if it fails, it could fail just like you hit the kill switch. |

Bonkur, My M2 was acting kind of the same way yesterday, cutting out off and on. I bypassed the kickstand switch and it is fine now. Fly has the right idea, don't cut the wire. Ken |

I'm starting to believe that the kick-stand switch may not be the culprit. The entire electrical system is DEAD. I don't think that the kick-stand switch can short out the entire system.... |

Check your fuses first - always start with the simple shit. After that start at the battery and start working your way out from there. |

Bonk, If battery is OK, I suggest a quick check of your main grounding connections, in particular the braided grounding strap assembly. Good luck. |

Battery cable can break/come loose.Battery can fail with bad cell etc(especially one that old),stator goes out and you drain battery without even knowing it until engine dies, ignition switch go south and no power gets through it.Start simple,do you have 12+ volts at battery with multimeter, next check, etc. |
