Ok, this is insurance. My insurance is currently based out of FL. I'm now stationed in CO. How does your insurance handle you being military and going to a new conus base?

When I was active duty I had USAA (still do on my cars, there MC insurance was not competitive on my current bike) and with them it was no big deal. I just notified them of the move. It did sometimes affect my rates. Not sure if that helps, but like I said, I just called them and told them my new location.

USAA works with Progressive now for MC insurance. I have been getting great rates through them and Progressive is required to be extra "nice" to its USAA customers. Like Dyna said, I believe you just let them know your new location.

Really? Hmmm, I have USAA as well for my car but they wouldnt insure my bike b/c they said that you have to have your MC license for 5 years before they would. So I went to Progressive. Ive had my license since 2002 now.... should I call up Progressive to try to get a lower rate? What do you mean by "extra nice"?

Maybe b/c of the state you live in? I'm not sure. But I just got my permit in Jan of 07 and when I called USAA for a MC rate they said they would have to transfer me over to Progressive. The USAA agent told me USAA contracts with Progressive and requires Progressive agents to offer just as excellent customer service as USAA does so as not to give USAA a bad name. When I log into Progressive it says, USAA Insurance Agency, Inc. welcomes you but says Progressive on top. I have an 02' X1 and pay $111 for the year at 20 years old, I don't know if thats good or not.

I used to carry my bikes with USAA, until about two years ago. Whatever they say about "customer service" is a load of BS. I still carry my homeowners and auto through USAA, because it's USAA...but their farmed-out MC insurance was a joke. My rates were bumped nearly exponentially for three six-month periods until I got fed up and left. And no, I didn't get any tickets or move during that time. Now I'm with HD insurance and I just got my bill. 96 FLHP, 95 S2, 98 S1W, listed for 20k miles a year each...$158.00 for twelve months. Granted I carry reduced collision on them because I'll likely put humpty-dumpty back together myself if something happens...but I was paying nearly that much a *month* before I got out of USAA. Same bikes, same coverage.

I have never had a problem with USAA. I have everything like collision and bodily injury etc. set as low as allowed. The premium actually went down $1 since my last statement. I just went to HD site and got a quote of $83 a year. It is also through Progressive.

Insurance rates are dependent on a lot of things. Bike (size & Type) your location, where you keep the bike garaged, how long have you been endorsed, other policies with same company, your driving record, your gender, your age, your marital status, your length of commute, if you ride the bike for commuting, when the last time you took an education riding course, your loss claims against previous policies, value of the bike, value of accessories, total miles per year, and your smoking status; to name the most common rating criteria. Some of those you control; some you dont. Dont be a unwed male under 25, no rider education riding the new Busa 1300, that smokes and parks the bike on the street and rides less than 3k miles a year; in the glorious states of california or florida. (those are some painful rates)

I've been with USAA for 25+ years and they still wouldn't insure me when I got a bike in 2003. I went with Progressive initially and switched to GEICO 2 years ago. When I had a wreck in September GEICO was extremely easy to work with

Little update. Talked to my current insurance provider, Allstate. Asked about my vehicals. Was told that since I'm military and I'll be keeping the registration along with my home of record in FL that I could stay with them in FL. Works for me.

I did talk to USAA last night and asked about my truck with them. Was told $1600 a year. I nearly had a heart attack. I pay 1/2 that with Allstate right now (close to 3/4 that) with full coverage.

I was paying almost $900.00 a year on my 03 XB9 through Progressive b/c it was put in the "crotch rocket" class. When the state of MD re-classified certain motorcycles, mine was one of them, thank god! My rates then dropped in half but I still feel like Im paying out the rear.....
When I lived in WI I had a Buell Blast and paid $150 a year for insu. When I move to MD it jumped to $400 a year but EVERYTHING is expensive here it seems.......
