hey guys,
I would appreciate any help picking a video camera..
mainly it is going to be used for family stuff.. my first child is on his way.. found out last Friday that its a boy..
we also have two girls, mine in every way except biologically speaking.. they are nine and ten and play soccer and basket ball.. we also kayak a lot..
so it will probably shoot some nature and sports..
Smaller in size would be good,
I have no clue on what is out there at what price ranges,
Or even the pros and cons of different medias.
Any input would be great,,, many thanks aaron

Have given up on true video cams since a good digital camera can do it...

Consider one with a built in hard drive that has a DVD burner docking station.
Both Sony and Cannon make them.
Blank DVDs are fairly inexpensive. The hard drive holds hours of video, no need to buy and save tape, they are solid state (no moving parts) so less that can go wrong. Easy interface to a PC to edit. Most new camcorders are small (you should see the size of the one I work with) and have an input for an external camera source to attach a powered bullet type cam. You probably want to mount the camera to your person when riding.
I have experimented with various mounts on the bike, but the vibration is just too much especially from an American twin. I settled on a helmet mount and it has worked out well.
Shop for helmet cams first and most will show you compatible camcorders that they will work with.
But definitly get one for memories of the kids.
Good luck.
