RIP Boyd, I enjoyed your show and admired your cars.
I always thought Chip Foose the better designer and nicer guy, but would like to offer my condolences to his family, friends and associates....

+1 on The tallent
+1 on lots of nicer guys (I met him, not real friendly)

But he is a loss to the motoring community.

RIP Sir...

Having had the chance to take a tour of his shop, Boyd was a very personable guy. He took the time to take us through the shop, introduce my father and me to the crew and show us the cars.

The day we were there was when they brought in the Crazy Horse Mustang (yellow w/ silver hood stripes), they were out back doing burnouts until they blew the rear tires off the rim.

His personality shown on TV was a lot for TV, not saying he didn't have his moments otherwise, but generally a nice guy. He even sold me wheels for my truck instead of pawning me off on a sales rep (gave me a nice discount as well)

This article from 1/31/08 is interesting: http://www.pr-usa.net/index.php?option=com_content &task=view&id=63276&Itemid=9

Says he fell at home and is "recovering and doing very well, he is expected to go home next week."

I met Boyd about 1996 or so in Lincoln, NE at a PHR Americruise event. I was looking over the wheel display at his truck and heard a rumble approaching and it got real close real quick. I turned around, fully expecting to be run over...and there, not two feet away... Boyd Coddington had almost runover me with the most beautiful car he ever built, the Smoothster. Always wanted to see that car up close and here, the man himself had nearly shinned me with it.
I introduced myself and we BS'd for about 10 mins and he gave me a Smoothster T-shirt and poster. I wasn't looking for an autograph or anything, just my chance to talk cars with one of the guys who molded my taste in vehicles.
The poster is still framed on the wall, the T is almost worn out but still treasured. The Smoothster still tops the list. He is gone too soon. Godspeed to you Boyd! I'll look for your burnouts across the sky.

Bummer, he was very talented.
He had a big influence on many that will not be fully understood or appreciated until many years have passed.
Somewhere is a kid that watched every American Hotrod episode and was influenced for life.
10, 15 or 20 years from now their work will show influences from the old TV shows and Boyd's creativity.

RIP Boyd.

Yes, a shame indeed. I met Boyd at a World Of Wheels show and thought of him as a very nice guy. I know the attitude was there to some, we all have our moments. God speed Boyd.

Just an added note, Lil' John Buttera passed away this past Sunday as well.

Lil' John was a true innovator to the hot rod/drag race/indy car industry as well as a short stint designing Harley parts for Boyd's short lived line of HD parts.
