Any opinions on perforated leather jackets?
With all the heat and humidity down here on the Gulf I spent most of last year riding in cheap mesh riding jacket. My leather jacket is just too hot. However, after buying some Icon Pursuit gloves I was surprisingly happy with the perforated leather. They keep my hands nice and cool in every situation but heavy traffic.
Since then I've been wondering if a perforated jacket would be better than the textile mesh.
Anyone have any experience with these?

Lot's of perforated race suits out there. I have one. I've been down 3 times with it and it holds up beautifully. Lot cooler for warm weather as well. Not as cool as mesh, but worth the extra protection.

Mesh works just fine. Just remember, it's a one use item. Crash in it and it's used. With that said. I have personal experience with mesh in a crash. It protected me just like it was suppose to.

I currently run with a couple perf jackets. A Vanson and a Fieldsheer. I gave up the mesh Joe Rocket while I was in florida.

On the move the perf is quite fine, just a tad warm sitting at a light in the sun.

I prefer the vanson due to its sleeves being perf'd. The FS has full armor in it and it does let you know in the heat.

I've got a Fieldsheer 2-piece perforated leather setup. My advice is consider another color besides black. MAN it's hot in the summer! I've actually been trying to find a zip-together 2-piece textile setup for the summer. Anybody got any ideas on something like that (not to hijack)?

I ran a first gear mesh last year right up until I lit it on fire well melted it anyway by draping it over the handel bars at the headless horseman in Oct. I went and bought the turbulant jacket over the winter I am anxiously awaiting test time.

I've got a nice jacket that's perforated on the front with solid leather at contact points.

I also keep a mesh Joe Rocket that's pretty great too

I have a perforated Dainese suit and jacket. They are both most excellent in our tepid English Summer but need a windproof layer for Spring/Autumn.

Winter ?

"Since then I've been wondering if a perforated jacket would be better than the textile mesh."

For safety, yeah, but my perforated Vanson is unwearable in the summer months (Georgia - damn hot). It wasn't until I got a textile jacket that I was able to ride in the summer with better protection than a longsleeve T-shirt. In the spring and autumn (never say 'fall' on a MC forum!) the perforated Vanson is near perfect for this climate.

You really need three jackets to ride year round in the southeast, in my opinion. I can get by when I layer a windbreaker underneath my perforated Vanson with the vents closed, but I'd prefer another non-perfed Vanson for the winter.

I have a perforated H-D leather jacket. It works pretty good... Little warm in the Florida heat and humidity, but safety is worth it!

I have a Vanson Buell perforated leather/textile jacket...that thing's tough as nails and good for anything 45-90 degrees.

I typically just wear my normal leather jacket until it gets to be at least 90, and then break out the mesh - it's nice having choices, though (I've got four different jackets... O_o ).

Thanks guys,
I'll probably just stick with the mesh but keep an eye on eBay for a deal on a perf leather jacket. Icon has come out with a perforated version of their accelerant jacket that is available in white and looks great.
