The 16 hours aboard the S3 last Friday has me more motivated to find an alternative to the stock S3 seat. I'm looking for less expensive alternatives to a complete seat upgrade.

The Airhawk pad looks kinda spendy for what you get but seems to work well. Sheepskin seems to have a secret cult-like following & apparently works. But ... it looks kinda freaky to say the least having cousin IT under your arse.

Anyone with real world experience with either the sheep skin, Airhawk, or other?

And if anyone has a used Airhawk or Corbin for post '99 S3 they want to part with...drop me a note

(CCRyder...were you doing a comparison once?)

Sixteen hours?!!! Not a seat in the world will be comfortable for that long!!! Are you able to walk yet???? ;)

I'm not that familiar with the '99 seat, but I had a local auto/boat upholstery shop simply redo my stock S3 seat to my liking. I dropped the seat off in the morning and told them how I wanted the shape changed (had a little diagram). They had me come back in the afternoon to try the seat without a cover on it... to test the new foam shape. I liked it... they recovered it... all in one day! And it's *scads* more comfortable than the original!! The longest I've been on it at one time (save for gas stops) has been about five hours. And that was perfectly comfortable. And the work was top notch... it was done about 4-5 years ago and now has about 50,000 miles on it and looks brand new. :)

Don't know where you're located... but it's worth a try. Some of these boat/auto guys can be really talented!

I have an Airhawk pad and I love it. It's very comfortable. It's a little spendy but you get what you pay for. It's very well made and sturdy. If you take reasonable care of it, it should last a very long time. Plus, you can use it on any bike.

I only use it for longer trips. It almost works too well. It really isolates you from the bike and sometimes I don't want that. For comfort and value though I can recommend the Airhawk.

Steve: Thanks for the insight on the seat. Maybe I'll find a used seat and try something like that. [I'm near St Louis. If I'm not mistaken (I may be) you were at the 2000 Homecoming? Perhaps not ....]

That's an excellent point John about being able to transfer it to another bike. hahaha I need that option come to think of it. Hell...I may be able to ride my S1W more than a couple of hours. I've seen folks with Corbins even say they use an Airhawk...so this looks like my path. to make my ass happy. Plus come to find out, Airhawk is manufactured right here in Belleville, IL. No discount buying at the factory and they only do the on-line sale. Great people to talk to too!

16 hours riding in one day....yeah okay...iron butt rally my ass. :)

DAve:
The airhawk is the best. Even my Corbin after 6 hours needs help, especially in the summer. The Airhawk will keep you checks cooler and dryer. Anything else gel, etc try hard but don't hold air:+}.

Just my $0.02.

I'm even using the Airhawk on Cyndi's Heritage since my tailbone goes to sleep on it.
