Hi,

Does anybody know anybody who might know anything about looms? Trying to identify what company made this, trying to find any good discussion sites about using looms, and trying to find a good book or four on how to use them. Any leads would be appreciated. Thanks.

And to make this Buell related, if we get it figured out maybe my wife will build up a Buell rug.

This one is about 30" wide for the material width. The rug in process on it was started by the previous owner of the loom.

Hmmm, looks like a safer hobby for me. Might not get pulled over for weaving in the living room.

Ah that'll be a Harris & Spoons number 76 3/4 model "B".
You can tell it's the B model by the offset fetlockstronglers & the one-way squinge plate.
Hope this helps.
People say I loom sometimes.
Oh sorry the wife has just corrected me, she says I must be going deaf as they're not saying that I loom, but I'm a loony.

Rotzaruck,
don't be too sure it's safer. See that spreader looking thing in the 3rd pic near where the carpet goes over the edge? Well, it's got some super sharp little needle things that are sharper than any needle I've ever seen before and I've already stabbed myself in the fingertips about 6 times so far messing with it. Ouch.

Thanks Mr_G,
got no idea what a fetlockstronglers or a squinge plate are but I recon we'll be finding out soon enough.

Stopping at the store tonight to buy some bandaids.

Disclaimer - I acquired the following knowledge by living with it every day!
Mikej,
My wife has been weaving for about 14 years. Your loom looks like a one-off build to me. There is a similar one in my living room made by Schacht, along with the other 9 or so looms around here. Yours is kind of a combination of a table loom on a floor loom type frame. Check out this website: http://www.schachtspindle.com/products.htm
We have the Mighty Wolf listed on that site. My wife works mostly on an inkle loom that I built for her. It's an industrial strength version of the inkles on that website.
There is one book my wife swears by. It's called 'A Handweaver's Pattern Book' by Marguerite Porter Davison. My wife calls it the Bible. It's a pukey green color book.
PM me if you want to pick our brains more about anything, we would be glad to help you out. Here is my wife's website also: www.fiberwoodart.com
Good luck.

Yep, Tbolt beat me to it, it's a well made homebuilt.

( I don't think it has fetlockstronglers. you only need those for horse hair, if I remember right.
I can't see the squinge plate, but that's where I'd sign it If I made squinge plates. I don't though, so what do I know? )

My talents in that line end with spinning wheels.
