One of my dreams has been wanting to ride a motorcycle 200mph+ @ Maxton and possibly Bonneville. It looks like this could happen ($) next spring. I want to start learning as much as I can about getting 2 wheels over 200mph. I'm trying to build it out on paper right now, but I'm not an expert in speed or Japanese bikes. Yeah, riding a buell @ 200 would be great, but I think I can do it with a japanese bike easier and cheaper. Thinking of a derestricted used Busa with a dry nos system, some taller gearing and a air shift might be enough??? Any advice? Where do I start? Any place you could point me for more info? LSR/NOS/Turbo systems vendors? Good reading for speed/LSR/areo/busas? (Message edited by barker on February 13, 2008) | ||

I'd love to do that, but it would mean I would have to go on a diet.  I can't afford to trim that much weight off the bike. | ||

Weight is NOT an issue unless we're talking about being big enough to make HUGE wind resistance! Southern California Timing Association, Bubs and others have websites but for sure FMJ here is a decent resource. How many LSR events have you gone to? Talk to the competitors there, see what they're doing. Is 200 your goal or is it winning a particular class or division? Winning multiple classes? Different mods, fuels, etc will definitely put you in different classes. I have been hanging out @ ECTA's site. I am becoming a member and getting their rule book this year. I hope to attend a few event weekends @ maxton. At this point the goal is 200mph+ on a motorcycle. Im not worried about winning any classes. (Message edited by barker on February 13, 2008) | ||

i still have 3 more mph to make 200. its been years since i was close. 197 on radar when the transmission locked up. a benefit of growing up with the cops in a VERY small town is they will do things they shouldnt for you in the middle of the night. there was more money into that bike than i am even sure of. it was a friend of mines bike but i was always the pilot on the big runs. it was a V&H built ninja motor with N2O. i am sure i could do it on the Y2K we have sitting around though. i really need to get after that trip to the salt flats ive been dreaming about. | ||

To go over 200 mph at Bonneville requires about 20% more power than it would take to go 200 mph on pavement at sea level. A lot of folks come to Bonneville with hyabusas thinking it is going to be easy to go over 200 mph. Most go away very upset as they do not even break 180 most of the time. It takes Jon Noonan on his turbo busa about 600 hp to go 245mph. BTW, If you don't know who this is this is Dan from NRHS. We have the fastest Buell in the world and we have went 218mph at the salt flats. | ||

Both Joe Amo and Guy Caputo have gone very fast on NOS landspeed bikes and freguent those sites. Check out The Texas Mile,also.Another place to get your speed fix. Yup,graduated from 125-149,150-174,175-199,200-249,and the coveted AA license--250+. IIRC. | ||

There are licensing runs. That bike has been in the 217 range (someone correct me if my memory is failing) 200 has eluded MANY Hayabusas who thought it would be easy. One thing for sure . . you're gonna love the experience of preparing and the people you meet along the way. Planning is as important as power. You can power your way to about 190. You have to plan your way past it. | ||

Well said court, Aaron is hoping we can make a 225 mph pass this year if the salt cooperates. Last year was one of the worst years in recent memories for salt conditions. | ||

Going to bonneville this year. Would like to make a run on something. we'll see about that just mostly want to go to check it out have 3 bikes currently would like to take. The BUB event has a "RUN WHAT YOU BRUNG" class. I would think that would be a great introduction to the salt, at relatively low cost. Last year a woman, who rode her BMW K1200S from Virginia turned about 160 mph, then rode the bike back. There was a lot of folks running on that course without delays. Those who have been to Bonneville know about the delays. I don't who ran this bike, everytime I went by it no one was around, Sure looked good  | ||
