I am going to be finishing a basement. In one room the main water line comes into the room 6 inches where the line and shutoff valve attach. Is it per code to shorten the main line coming in so I can hide it in the wall. I will leave an opening for the valve but I want to hide the pipe.

Eric! where the heck have you been? william said he talked to you a couple times. we need to hook up and ride. Give me a call I'm a plumber. yes you can shorten the pipe, there is no local code governing this. Is the pipe coming in copper or the black poly(plastic pipe). If it is plastic, be easy on it, the thin wall poly can break really easy due to it getting brittle with age. Also if you have twist handle valve, put a lever style(ball valve) in it's place. you'll thank me later

Thanks Tom. I was hoping you would chime in. My phone died and I lost your number. Send it to me in a PM.

It is a new house black poly pipe coming in with copper attached to it. There is a half turn ball valve installed now.

Thanks
