put some stuff back in

waiting for a coat of paint

This is the 3RD pipe I've done. Its kinda like a cross between a Drummer and a Race pipe. (I've owned both)
This one is for Thumper74/James..... Just in time for MBV

Its a little louder than a race pipe but not as loud as a Drummer.
The seat of my pants dyno says it pulls as good as both.

Hey Wolf, what did you use for the tail pipes?
Got a picture of it on the bike?
Looking forward to seeing, and hearing it at MB-V!

Hey Wolf, what did you use for the tail pipes?

That my friend is a stainless steel grab bar that I cut the mounting flanges off of and then cut it in half and shortened.

Almost forgot, Thumper picked it up today to give it a coat of paint. He said he would post a video w/audio as soon as he gets it mounted.

What would you like to know?

Just wanting to know what you modified in the can. Looks like you gutted the whole thing and plugged two sides leaving one open. Is that correct? or am I missing something?

Curious, because mine is stock and I am considering cutting mine up: )

Well, I sand blasted it and hit it with some etching primer. Tommorrow's supposed to be f'in cold so I'll have to wait a few days to paint it. As soon as she's on, you's guys will get video.

The bike is sans suspension right now...

The neighbors are gonna hate me

Just wanting to know what you modified in the can

I first start by cutting the can 1/2" past the rear mounting point.

Then you will see 3 pipes welded in a plate. The whole thing is pressed in, and can be pulled out with a slap hammer or something like it.

Once you get the "guts" pulled out (pain in the a$$) you need to save the front plate.
You can see I have cut the pipes off and welded a plate over the two hole that are no longer needed.
Then you need to put that plate back in and weld it in place.(its your jacking point)

The last part is putting on the back plate. I cut it so it fits just in side the can and weld it in place. (your other jacking point)

I'll post pics of the next one when I get around to doing another one.

Hope that helps...

so basically you just left the insides empty, have one pipe for inlet, 2 for outlet.

does it have good airflow or does the exhaust flow just bounce around inside until its time to leave.

cause i was thinking of running a pipe from the inlet to the oulet with straight across the inside with holes drilled into the middle pipe. i was thinking something like this:

just bounce around inside until its time to leave

Thats all thats going on.

I was thinking about doing one like you have drawn.
If you find a baffle that is pre-drilled and
doesn't require to much effort to make work
let me know.

Thanks

I modified my stock muffler almost 3 years ago.

Basically, I just bypassed the rearmost chamber.

It sounded real good, but I lost a ton of low end torque!

My 9R needed a good tailwind for takeoff.

I ended up getting a stock can off of ebay and putting that back on.

Here's the thread.

It's been too cold except for today. I'll have my suspension back on tommorrow night and I'll get a video of it running.

I'll probably just hold off on painting it untill spring

To mirror what Saintly said, and i must ask.

What's the performance benefit to this modification? Me thinks ZERO.

Is it the poseur value of the rumble?

Saintly did something totally different.

Do you think the Drummer and Race pipe have now performance benefit?

But with any mod, nobody wants to be informed the results will be detrimental to performance.Sorry i rained on your parade

If a butt dyno says it's about equal and sounds good, I'm not opposed to doing it.

I don't race and I don't lug the bike so if there is a slight loss of low end torque, I'm sure it's neglible. If I don't like it, I'll sell it and get something else...

Well... I painted it. After getting rid of the rust, I wiped it down in laquer thinner and then wiped it down in wax/grease remover. I still managed to get some fisheyes in the paint. No worries though as it should be where the chin fairing meets it. I also managed a neat speckled silver finish to the paint on the Focus...

Way back when...
I had a hot pink BC Rich Warlock.
A really bitchin bass.
Before anyone says anything, I bought it from a pawn shop, so I could have any color I wanted as long as it was hot pink...
Anyway...
I had this wooden puzzle dinosaur thing of a pterodactyl, that hung above my amp stack.
I decided to paint it to match my bass.
The whole front porch had a hot pint haze.
I thought it was funny...I was the only one...

I don't know how accurate the Dyno Drag truck is, but mine ran a 10.33 quarter mile time with 96 hp on the rear wheel.

i did the cut up the 'ol muffler on mine late last year, and to me I haven't lost anything by doing so. it'll still pull the front wheel off the ground coming outa corners on hwy 60 and sounds pretty good too. Unfortunately, it was my first time welding in over twenty years, and I had to go into the pipe several times to get it "right". The sound is between a race can and a special ops, with my own little flair on the outlets.

In other words Wolfridgerider, eff what others think about hacking up a stock pipe, Do what makes YOU happy.
