Ok, so. I lift weights 5 days a week. Am in the Army (for those who don't already know) and of course am over the weight for my height. (At 72", 6', they want 195. I'm 232.) So, I must be taped. I know some tricks to always ensure I'm ok, but could use some more.

Bull your neck when being taped. The thicker the neck- the more belly they allow. I know from experience...

Just tell them you're hung like an elephant and that alone adds 20lbs.

A first class PFT was always a way out of getting taped, otherwise the neck trick is where its at.

the other trick is to buff and flex your leg , if I remember correctly, it was neck, waist, chest, wrist, thigh. I NEVER made weight. Taped me every time. Again there are waivers for everything and there is a f'n war going on. They will find away, even if it is probation until you are with in "stats" 5-7 havent been under 200lbs in YEARS. 15yrs service. HTFU very much. (plus it helps if you have an underserved MOS )

being air force, of course our standards aren't near as rough as the army's as far as weight/fitness is concerned. times are changing though. we're starting to get tougher, even though its a slow process, and most air force personnel are lazy when it comes to running, but once again its getting better.

one thing the DOD is doing is attempting to do is alot of cross force military education. we're seeing more army, navy and marine's coming to our leadership schools and our guys going to their leadership schools and of course our guys going to their convoy training school too.

here's my long term outlook for the military. jump in if you agree or disagree.

i feel that in the near future(not during my life)that there will be one military force. except maybe the marine's, but they will always be the navy's bastard children. this is just a theory, with the way things are moving right now.

I agree with you. I believe in the next 50 years (10 years?) the Army/Navy/Airforce will join to one, and it'll be a hidden building in some remote location controlling un-manned aircraft/boats/vehicles.

Sounds pretty futuristic, but I don't think we're too far away.

It may be possible for a medical wavier. As long as a Army doc can say that a medical condition causes you not to make weight but still make the body fat % you "should" have a "medical condition" call being in shape to have need for a wavier.

As for tips to pass the tape test, just before it is your turn to be taped excuse yourself to the latrine and do some neck exercises to get your swell on in the muscles in your neck. A 1/2 inch in the neck is worth about 3 on the waist.
