This morning I took my usual ride over Ortega Highway, even if the rest of my usual group didn't... For those not local to So Cal, here's an overview of Highway 74:

The rain last night really pounded the area, and there was a lot of mud, gravel, and various debris in the road, and conditions were very wet with scattered showers still falling at the higher elevations.

This is the first chance I've had to really test my Metzeler Sportec M3 tires in some twisties during wet weather, and I must say that I never lost traction even one time, and I maintained at least 50mph through most of the turns. Average speed over the hill was between 50-80mph and I found myself hanging corners pretty low without any slippery or unstable feeling the whole time. In the past, I have been a strong proponent of the Metzeler Z6 tire for all-weather duty, but after this morning I know that the M3's are very bit as good, if not better.

I had a great ride, even if it was all by myself, even the BMW "adventure rider" guys weren't up at The Lookout, I had the whole place to myself until a lone rider on a DR650 showed up. We scoffed at the less diligent and parted ways. It was a beautiful morning, and all you late-sleepers missed out.

Thanks for the write up.
My M3's should be here tomorrow according to the Fed Ex tracking number.
I can't wait.

Sounds messy, but I am sorry I missed you this week. Although I did go for a 3-mile run an just missed the rain. I will catch up with you guys soon, though.

After noting a little high speed drifting on the Uly Dunlops I switched to M3s. I am on my second set on the Uly and I like them so far. I generally keep the pressure pretty high for regular riding.

A few weeks ago on a very cold day that was a little damp I had a very slight slip in a corner. Given the temp in the low 40s and the damp surface I was not too surprised but the slip was far from a full release and mostly informed me that I needed to exercise a little more caution.

Thanks for the report on the M3s as not many Buell riders seems to be trying them.

How is the pavement on 74 north of san juan springs? I'm planning a trip out west this summer, and that looks like a road I'd enjoy.

They're repaving the entire road in sections right now, so there's a point where you stop and wait for the traffic to come the other way, and the motorcycles collect at the front of the pack. When the flag man flips the stop sign around we get to go first, of course it was just me this morning.

In general, the pavement is already good all the way over. Let me know when you head out this way, the green arrow on the left side of the picture is pointing at my house. There is a lot of excellent riding within a 2 hour radius in all directions (except for the ocean I suppose).
