from what i understand, all the rooms and beds are taken in the lodge. unless you can hook up with one of the other groups who have a cabin or just go ahead and camp your next alternative is the hotels in dahlonega

The turn in that 4th pic is just insane!!
The picture I posted of me above is in that very turn.
Just as a point of reference, what sort of speeds are some of you hitting or maintaining or averaging in that turn in pic 4?
If I'm rippin it up, I may go 15 or 20 into that turn. It's a tight one, I've seen many bikes run out of road rider right there.

Anyone have advice on camping gear?

DO NOT GET A AIR MATTRESS! I used one last year and froze my a$$ off....

Walmart has good prices on tents. I would get a 3 man tent just so you will have some room to move around and keep you gear.
Get a GOOD sleeping bag. Something that is rated for colder temps. Its better to be to warm than to cold. You can always open the bag and cool off.
LED Headlamp. You will look like a coal miner but they are one of the most useful things I have found.
Bring plenty of warm clothing. Its better to have it and not need it than to be wet, freezing and on the verge of becoming a human popsicle.
You don't need to bring to much in the way of food & water. There is gas station right across the road that has enough stuff to get by for the weekend.

Hope this help....... and........

68 DAYS!!!

Thanks Glitch.

Not_Purple,
One reason I asked earlier what the temps were like was so I'd know what sleeping bag to bring, the normal one or the 0° bag. Bring along a sleeping pad of some sort, I've got a semi-thin foam filled inflatable one that inflates to about an 1" or 2" and rolls/folds up to fit into a school lunchbox. For a tent also bring along a ground cloth for under it, probably a 2-man freestanding model, with ventilation and a rain fly so your persperation and breathing doesn't cause a rainstorm inside while you sleep and so the morning dew doesn't turn the tent into a shower either. A decent backpacking tent and support poles should roll/fold up into the space of a large salami or doublelong loaf of bread.

I'd probably suggest a sleeping bag rated for down to 20°F. For a tent maybe something like this:

or this:

I like 2-man tents when solo so I've got room inside the tent for my gear. If you really want to go compact you can go with a solo tent or a bivy sack:

Hit the REI outlet page to get an idea of discount prices for reasonable tents:

The Nugget

Wolf Pen can bite hard.
This is Sanchez's bike after he went off the steep side at what I now call "Nugget's Leap"

Nugget's Leap

Nugget's Leap would be just after the second

.

So please, please, please everyone, ride your own pace, and beware.
Sanchez was not going fast at all.
It don't take speed to mess up a perfectly good day.
This only proves that even a skilled rider can have a rotten ending.

Around here, if you see a sign like this

followed by a speed limit sign, my advise is to obey the speed limit.

My last tent I bought cost $3.00 at a rummage sale. This reminds me, I need to find my tent and retreat the seams.

The Nugget,
that's a nasty looking landing, looks like he uprooted the big rock, hope he didn't also uproot that stump. Did Sanchez walk away from this one? I don't remember what I read about it.

Hey wolf-
what about an air mattress and a cold rated sleeping bag? : ) Nothing beats an air mattress when pitching tents.

Last year I froze the first night. We stopped by Walmart on our way back to TWO and I bought a HUGE sleeping bag. I put the old one on top of the air mattress and slept in the new one and that wasn't bad.

The bag was so huge I had to have Toona ups it back to me once I got home..... and thanks again Toona for hooking me up!

Gander Mountain has some 0 degree sleeping bags for reasonable prices. Most of them are packed in pretty small boxes, so I would imagine that they would translate well into a motorcycle packing.

sorry...a version for the "slightly perverted"-

Nothing beats an air mattress when utilizing a nylon wrapped, aluminum frame supported, double seam stitched housing device when camping.

Did Sanchez walk away from this one?
Not that day.
They had to wench him up (it was about a 25 or 30 foot drop) the hill to the ambulance. He broke his ankle pretty badly.
He's ok now though, back on two.
Got himself a Uly.
and a GSXR as well

It's there too. It's on all the boards. I believe we can advertise this wherever we want.

Funny,

When we did the 20th or had any of the Homecoming stuff going on through our dealers.... Blake would move it to the Storm front section. Storm Fronts is for events and club related issues. Just an observation

Looking at Glitch's post confirms my need for a new tire purchase.
I wont be riding hard enough to justify an aggressive tire like Pilot Power, Corsa III, or Sport Attack. Was thinking pilot road 2's or conti road attacks. Would those suffice on these types of roads?

Not so much. : ) I didn't walk at all for a good long while. The blue speck to the right of the bike is me:

It's good to learn from your mistakes, but it's much better to learn from someone else's, so don't be a Sanchez at March Badness!
