Anyone know if we can bring a Buell back into the USA and get it registered, epa cert, etc. More so if it is a Japanese modeled Buell and also VIN'ed for Japan?? specifically the xb line.

I am thinking of picking up a used one over here in Japan but I dont want any major hassles when I bring it back.

No.

Buy it there, enjoy it, sell it, buy one here.

There may be exceptions if you are in military service that would allow you to buy in the USA, temporily operate in Japan, and return.

There are ways, but it would be more cost effective to just buy one once you get stateside

We have had 3 Japanese Harleys through the shop. All were military guys coming back from tour. If it is your personal bike, and you are in the military, have it shipped PCS with your household goods back state side. Do NOT try and export it back as a vehicle. (it gets ugly fast) Once you get here, you will have to pay a licensing and inspection fee for the state that you are returning to. Convert your gauges if they are in Km's (easy dash face replacement) And pay the state their money. They always want money. If you are not in the military coming back home, I have no idea how to do it. Hope that helps.

Humm

I am military. I have my Buell from the USA in Japan now. It cost me about 2 grand total to get it emissioned , inspected, etc here. I dont want to do the same in the USA for a used one I would bring back to America.

The Harleys you have seen, are they VIN'ed for Japan or USA?
You can pick up a American VIN'ed Harley on base no problem. I am wondering about the Japanese VIN'ed bikes specificaly.

I would really like to know...I the wife is really interested in getting an xbs for her self...how cool is that?!

These were Japanese bikes bought out on the economy, not American bikes purchased through the AFES/NEX car sales. There was an inspection, there was emission requirement, there was the gauge conversion for each.

That's extremely cool! I'm one of the lucky guys whose wife rides an XB12Ss. One of the neatest things I can think of is riding down a nice twisty road and seeing her in my mirror, or seeing her tail light ahead of me. Congratulations!

Sorry I am not on Oki, I did spend 2 1/2 months there last year...I would not want to be there too long, but good grief the water there is beautiful..They say it is like in the top 5 in the world for Scuba diving.

I on the mainland in Japan. I am in the Military about 45 mins from Hiroshima. Right now on this tour I am doing/learning a whole new Job pretty much. It is CPI, Lean Six Sigma, Theory of constraints schtuff. All of it is mostly geared towards Aircraft maintenance, supply chain, etc. Hopefully one day I can get out and do it for BMC..lol

So far I seriously love it in Japan. If someone had the opportunity to come here I would say take it. Mountains are within 8 mins of anywhere (unless your in a downtown city). So the riding is AWESOME!! Even if you dont ride it is gorgeous. The Japanese really are into nature, parks, etc, alot of outdoors kind of things.

In Yamaguchi city there is the Smallest HD /Buell dealership I have ever seen...However it has mores Buells than anywhere I have been in USA...Go figure.. The Japanese really like Buells.

you're an aircraft dude who loves buells stationed in japan? look up Rr_eater on this board - i just bought his buell, and he deployed to japan today.

D

p.s. H-D Japan tracks their VINs very carefully. If you do buy one and try to export it, make sure its papers are all legit or it may not make it out of the country.
