I'm almost afraid to see what Grumpy has posted, can't see it from here on the day job.

As to what I've got, probably a little bit of everything. The Mrs. would I do have everything. I would say I don't have much, just not enough room.

Just thought I'd start this thread to be a general catch-all for folks looking to swap/sell stuff, Buell stuff, other stuff, general or generic stuff.

I'll be attacking the garage this week now that I've got the bicycle project close enough to completion. I think I've got an SWR radio antenna meter match thing, some old knockoff hubs from an old late '50's to early '60's Triumph or MG or Austin-Healey complete with the knockoffs (will have to count the splines and measure the mounting holes and research what they might be worth), got a pair of old 1930's to 1940's headlight housings that I was thinking of building a hot rod around someday, got a variety of other stuff and junk and whatnot, and don't know what else I've got. And depending upon any response I get I most likely will have some Buell stuff.

(posted this in the quick board section to hopefully keep Blake from JuJitsuing my hind quarters )
(I might even slip an old firearm in here, all FFL/BATFE regulations to be complied with of course)

Dennis,
you're about 2 years too late, had one, gave it away. Left over from the Jeep days.

Mike, I might be looking for an SWR meter! I need to make and tune an J-pole FM 88.3 MHZ antenna to a 75ohm feed.
I've got a low power FM transmitter I want to reach a bit further...

I'll send you a pic when I get home tonight. Gonna be out in the garage rummaging around anyway and trying to dig out the headlight buckets for pics also.

How good are the splines on those hubs? I'm working on a stupid '63 MGB project for a guy and I think the splines are pretty bad on that car. Anybody interested in a '77 MGB project?

A '77 would be rubber bumper era, right? I had a '76 or '77 Midget, wouldn't mind having a chrome bumper model, or an older Triumph again someday. Would want it to be pre-SMOG-EPA era though so probably have to be before 1967 or so.

I think the splines are good, will have to check them under a good light later tonight or tomorrow. I'll photo them with a ruler across the bolt holes to help figure out what they'll fit. These are down in the basement, will take a bit to dig them out, unless I moved them in which case it may take awhile to find them.

Feel free to post a pic or link to your MGB project car, sounds interesting.

Thanks. I'm not too familiar with the splines so if you can illustrate how to judge them it would be helpful. I do know that one of the front wheels (before I got the brake unstuck) went KLUNK when I tried to turn it. That's gotta be splines but I don't know if it is the wheel or the hub (or both). BTW the car was obviously raced (roll bar) so it was run hard and put away wet. The '77 is a rubber car but the good thing about it is it seems to be very free of rot, just a lot of surface rust. I had taken it nearly completely apart when I had some surprise heart surgery and I've never gotten back to it. I think I'd like the garage space more than the project at this point. I can take some pix if anyone is interested.

I know from my Triumph days and from an Austin-Healy based kitcar that you count the splines to get the count right, there were several variations and some people bought new hubs only to find they had the wrong spline count for their car. A loose spline fit can be known to give you a clunk. I've been told and followed to just inspect the spline teeth/ridges and recesses for nice sharp looking peaks and valleys. Rounded and dinged up is bad. Plus some owners of knockoffs never took them off to grease the splines so sometimes they'd get stuck/rusted on and would cause all sorts of grief getting them off. I'll see if my little digital camera can get a decent enough of a closeup pic to show some detail, I'll use the tripod and side/shop lights to help the view.

You also have to know if you're counting the peaks or valleys on both the hub and the spindle to be sure you're talking apple to apples. I just count the valleys on the hubs with a small pointed object to help keep count, then count the peaks on the spindles with my fingernail to keep track. A grease pencil or some other soft marker helps to mark your starting point when counting, and it's easy to loose track.

headlights, got no idea what these originally came off of, and not sure if the two rings actually are correct for them as they seem a little small, plus only have one inner ring thing

swr, I assume this works but haven't actually tried it with a radio or antenna, not even sure if there's a battery inside but can open it up if you want me to. The crack in the panel glass does not appear to hit the needles.

spindles, oops, called these hubs earlier but they are the spindles, brainfart. Anyway, they have 75 splines. The big wrench looking thing is for pounding the locking nuts on with. Some used to say these hex style nuts were more secure than the winged nuts, not sure though.

Some Buell stuff will eventually make it into here. Got no current idea what any of this stuff is worth so make an offer or wait until I figure it out, I'm flexible.

Hmmm, Moss Motors calls them hubs so maybe I did have their name right. Anyway according to Moss Motors these look more like Triumph and MG "hubs" than Austin-Healey ones. Hope this helps some.

I thought the early hubs had a different number of splines than the later cars but I might be wrong. The information I was able to find says that unworn splines should have a flat spot on top but worn ones will be sharp. Also, the measurement should be 2.450" NEW, and 2.400 ABSOLUTE minimum. I can't determine if this applies to all years. I can pull a wheel from that pig and count the splines. I can call the owner and ask him what he wants to do. I'm trying to get him to realize that he's getting to the point where he has more money in it than it's worth but he is hard-headed. What do you want for them?

MossMotors wants either a $837 or $469 for a set of four depending upon if you're looking at the MG or Triumph price, wrecking yards get about half of retail which would put it between $200-$400, and I'll take even less. Is $150 plus shipping out of line? I haven't messed with the British stuff for years. I also haven't cleaned these things up, I tend to not do that until I get ready to use them. The splines I'd have to compare against a known good set to be able to say how worn these are. I'm open to offers.

Well, if you're in no hurry I'll talk to the owner. If you can mike them to see how they measure or compare to an unworn one (I don't know where you would find one) that would do as well. Thanks.

No hurry, just clearing stuff out if I can. I don't know if my calipers at home have the reach to measure these but will try to check them this weekend.

Got an estimate on UPS shipping costs for the headlight buckets, should be $15-$20 ground based on an estimated 20Lb box. Haven't packaged them up so don't know an actual weight yet. Open to offers on all this stuff.

Money from sales will now go towards maintenance on the Buell and road trip funds for MarchBadness in Suches.

Brad/BluzM2,
Any interest in the SWR meter? Otherwise I'll try to Craigslist it locally.

$5,000 for the Workmate and I'll throw in a Buell M2. I'll sell you the garage door behind it for $175,000 complete with the garage attached and might even throw in the house and property too. The house is within walking distance to Lake Michigan, you could get a boat slip at the marina and row/sail across the lake to Michigan.
