After my wife said she didn't like riding behind me on my Uly anymore we bought her a 07 Harley Sportster 883L . Now she has decided it's not for her so I'm going to sell it and get her a scooter instead. Any recommendations? I really know nothing about them.
Thanks,
BB

what about a blast? i bought one for my girlfriend she loves it. they are extremely easy to ride. but if she isn't in to a blast then there are plenty of cats on this site that have scooters. i think damnut is one of them.. i am sure they will all chime in shortly...

I bought my girlfriend a Vespa GT 200 and she loves it. It will do 70mph with me on it and a little more with her on it.

Once she outgrows it I will either get her a real bike or if she wants to go teh scooter route I will end up getting her a Suzuki Bergman 650. I've heard great things about the Bergman, 650cc v-twin.

You can't go wrong with a Vespa, they have a new 3 wheel, 500cc model that I saw at the IMS show last weekend. 2 wheels in the front and 1 in back. Pretty cool scooter.

My wife also has a Vespa GT 200. She loves it! She has been riding it to work every day it hasn't rained since last May. A 65 mile round trip.

Husky is on the mark! Get her to sit on, rock it back and forth a bit. Get all the test ride miles they'll let her ride (though test rides are hard to come by)

Blast is a rider-friendly bike. Many good things about it. We worked the booth at the Long Beach IMS - and Sunny spent TONS of her time talking to women about the Blast and the Lightning Low.

You might consider the Burgman if she doesn't like the Blast or the Low. Buddy of mine just got one and the underseat storage is awesome - 2 full helmets or Jimmy Hoffa's body. Google it at Suzuki if you haven't seen one. Kinda/sorta auto tranny too.

It'll do freeway speeds and doesn't handle badly. It'll do 2-up pretty well for pretty long rides. He's a retired racer and he'll keep right with the group in the 100 mile hamburger run! His other streetbikes are the ZRX1200 and a Ducati Multistrada.

Get her a Blast or tell her to use her feet! Man, if I bought my old lady a Sporty (her own bike) and she refused it, Hell I'd have a meltdown!!!
I bought my old lady an '05 Blast after her '03 Suzuki DR-200 (which she really wanted to keep) and she LEARNED to like it!!!
Now she can't imagine life without her Blast - she adores that bike!
Do yourself a favor and see if some more time doesn't help her to come around! A scooter - Come On - Imagine that thing in YOUR garage!!!

Suzuki Burgman 650.
If I was stuck having to ride a scooter, this would be the one.

My dad has an Aprilia Scarabeo 500. Great bike. Has larger diameter tires than the Suzuki Burgman's. Handles better and is plenty fast. I had it up to an indicated 90mph and it had plenty more to give.

Also have a buddy from church that bought a Burgman 400 right after he completed the motorcycle safety foundation course. He had me ride it home for him from the dealership when he bought it. It was a nice smooth ride.

My dad had a couple of Chinese 250cc scooters before buying the Aprilia which are fine for around town riding. However, they at speeds over 60mph, it felt like you were pushing the motor too hard (kinda buzzy).

Get your wife to take a test ride and you may be plunking down the cash faster than you think.

Just ask Barker. : D

Burgman+1 I had one in the shop for tires and of course had to take it out after the work was done. It was a great little commuter and did 75 with my fat a-- on it. Now, I'm not the smallest thing going. 6'!' two fiddy. I really was a bit humiliated when I first got on but quickly learned how these things can make a hero out of anyone. Besides being quick and agile, it actually was alot of fun. If she's stuck on scooters, thats the one. Of course I will say this, get the Blast and be done with it. Give her a few lessons and let her get an endorsement. Good luck to both of you, be patient!

I hate to admit it, but a couple of years ago at Biketoberfest I had a lot more fun on the Suzuki demo ride on the 650 Burgmann than I did on the Buell demo ride on the Ulysses. Could be that the Suzuki demo LEADERS were riding like bats outta hell, whereas the Buell demo leaders were staying BELOW the posted speed limits...

I could see myself owning a Burgmann 650 easy!

"Get your wife to take a test ride and you may be plunking down the cash faster than you think. "

Thats how I got my buddy. My wife wrecked the demo bike. I was in the shop, haggling price, when I heard "Wow, she is going fast!" CRUNCH!

I tried telling the salesman, that I could not pay full price for a wrecked bike. He did not think that was funny.

Top speed is only 34 mph with a 185 lbs rider though : (

A scooter - Come On - Imagine that thing in YOUR garage!!!

I have one in my fleet, along with a 96 Triumph, 04 XB12R, 91 CR250R, 86 XR80R, 75 BMW R90/6 and a 86 Honda Spree. Don't knock em till you tried it. They WILL surprise you on how fast they are.

Interesting story..... When I first bought the Vespa and brought it home, I took it out for a ride. I stopped over my best friend's house to show him what I bought. He looks at it and starts laughing his ass off. He tells me that it's ugly and gay.

He then says that he was about to go for a ride on his bike, 01 HD Fatboy. I tell him "I'll go home and get the Buell and go for a ride with you". I live about 3 miles from him. I ask him if he wants to ride the Vespa to my house and I'll take his bike. He agrees to ride it cause I convince him that it's a blast to ride and it screws.

I leave on his bike and go to my house. Go get the Buell and my gear. I live 3 miles from him and it took him 20 minutes to get to my house. He pulls in my driveway with the biggest smile on his face. I ask him why it took so long. He tells me that he couldn't believe how quick it was and was having a blast cruising on it. Tells me that he would own one in a heartbeat.

This was the same guy that 20 minutes ago was saying that it was gay and now he was telling me that he would own one.

Don't knock em cause they are fun to ride. Go to MBV and I'll let you take it for a ride. I'm even thinking about taking it to the Dragon. SCRAPING FLOORBOARDS BIATCH!!!!!

My wife has fun on her 125 Vino from Yamaha. It tops out at 55 and gets over 60mpg. She's already dumped a Honda Reflex 250, when it got away from her(wet pavement and blond hair)she was ok but the scoot was rashed.

My old man has a Honda reflex 250. I have put maybe 3k miles on it.

It is freeway capable, but that is about it. It will do 70-75mph (at sea-level) all day.

Honestly though I would look at something bigger (silverwing, burgman, etc...) when on the freeway you are at 9/10ths in regard to power, this leaves no room to escape.

Question, what does she not like about the HD?

Barker speaks the truth. I owned a honda helix for a while. It would run 70 2 up. Had a nice trunk, took a couple weekend trips with it.

I am scheduled to meet with a dealer's ad agency to talk about getting some "rolling footage" of the spyder for TV spots.

That should be fun.

I hope it was like my last shoot with honda, For 3 days, I got to drive the S2000 back and forth from my hotel to the location (Blue Ridge parkway)
