Hey y'all- I'm planning to ride out to the Dragon the afternoon of 12/31 with the guy who bought his 1125R from me- the weather looks to be about as good as it gets for the end of December, so LET'S RIDE!!!

I was planning a ride out anyway- when my buddy called, that was just a bonus. If y'all local Badwebbers can make it out, youn's oughta...

Happy New Year to all, and {stay safe} if not sober...

Would, but being in CO makes that a long ride there and back especially in the snow.

Sounds like a good idea. If I can get my sinus illness to let go I'm in. (I need to ride). I hate blowing chunks in my helmet when I sneeze or cough!

Etennuly,
A little trick I learned while guarding the northern border preventing the Canadians from invading.

Place hot compresses on your eyes, hot as you can stand it. Then if you can stand the pressure, pressureize your sinuses by plugging your nose and gently blowing, to expand your sinuses.
If you want a quicker fix, run warm salt water in your nose, then blow it back out.

Swampy,

Thanks for that. I have done that in the shower, but you know what can happen with too much pressure.

Brad, What time dude??

Hey guys- I'll be at the dealership by 11-12 noon. Hopefully the later afternoon will have drier roads in the mountains. Plus warmer temps.

Unless the sun shines long enough on these saturated twisties, you'll have wet tarmac in the shady spots.

My goal is kickstands up by 12:30.

LETS PARTY LIKE ITS 1999+9

Have fun! If yall see a dipstick out of a 03 XB9R, pick it up for me. Its some where between the overlook and the gas station.

I rode on and with an 1125R yesterday.

Got to ride it around the tight and wide twisties of center hill lake.

Bottom line, not so sure its any faster than my 9R in the tight stuff. But when the turns get wider, Im sure it will pass it like its backing up.

Ergos felt really close to my bolt.

Boingers needed to be tighten up for me. A little soft.

POWAH!!!!

More than I need of useable smoooooth power.

Tranny is nice. Love the clutch.

Needs a set of Pilot power 2cts.

Lot of noises/jitters/surges from the the engine and/or tanny under 3k rpms

Right toe hits tranny case. A little tight down there if you wear 12+ size boot.

Quiet zone, not so quiet. Might be the mohawk messing with the aero.

27mpg!!

Sounds wicked.

Front faring is bigger when your sitting behind it. Vern will feel right @ home in this factory bubble.

Lights are nice.

Seems lighter and lower CG.

Not impressed with the brakes, I was expecting more. I like my ZTL1's with HH pads better. Might just need a better set of pads.

Fun/Easy to ride with plenty of power. A real weapon.

I got to ride one at Cycle Connection in Joplin.

It was a short ride, but enough to see the potential.

The ergonomics are similar to the R from the waist up. There may be just a little less reach on the 1125R.

The real magic in comfort is from the waist down. The peg position is still high, but don't seem to be nearly as cramped as the R. I don't know if they are simply lower or lower and farther back, but the leg comfort was remarkably better than the R.

The engine was interesting. I followed a guy on a big bore dresser with a megaphone. I believe the engine was running, but I can't be sure. The only thing I could tell was that there were vibrations confirming that the engine was running. It has some buzzes in weird places. Similar to other v-twins I have ridden. We never exceeded 45mph, so I never got it above 5,000RPM. I don't know what it does at full sing. I don't know what it sounds like at steam either.

What I could tell was that the torque curve I felt was from 1000RPM up. I simply twisted and it grunted. It was superb. It spools up QUICK! It's a great motor. I don't think it will make a good motor for the Uly in it's current configuration. The one I rode showed 22MPG average mileage. I believe that the mileage will have to at least be in the 30's to be a real contender. At 30MPG, it would only run 150 miles on current capacity. I could see the same motor in 120HP/90lbft tuning and still be a screamer. A 400HP minivan would be a hoot, but stopping every 175 miles would get old quick.

I forgot to look to see how many miles it had on it. I'm sure it will loosen up. I wonder if the vibrations lessen at higher RPMs.

I hate the sound of the bike at idle. I have heard the videos of the bike on the track, and it sounds cool, but the EPA has completely neutered the sound of the engine.

I also REALLY dislike the "dog bone". The overall appearance of it is not attractive at all. The finish welds look like when you turn your shirt inside out and see all the seams. It is BY FAR the least finished part of the whole bike. Everything else looks so polished. Why the hell doesn't the muffler match. I can only guess that it's a function of the hydroforming process. I would like it a little more if there were some sort of chin spoiler that extended back to the rear of the muffler and dressed it up a little bit.

About the "scoops". I saw them. They are invisible from the rear. They are noticeable most from the side and less so from the front.

They look most like this:

The A-6 is one of my favorite planes, so I guess this explains why I haven't had a problem with the looks.

Overall, the bike is an evolutionary leap over the R model. The frame is so much cleaner than the R/S model. The new off-center suspension set up looks very cool and seems to work well (on my short ride). The gauge cluster and front fairing are much higher quality. The switch gear looks to be nearly the same as the R/S models. The rear subframe, looks the same as well. I'd like a little more "badonkadonk" in the rear to balance out the front. I'm sure the after-market will supply some nice alternatives. The frame color looks much better in real life. The "bruise" color scheme looks better than I thought. The engine is beautiful. It looks like the cutting edge power plant that it is. I miss the coating on the exhaust pipes that the R/S models have. I really like how they age. These just didn't look as good to me.

I believe that the 1125R IS the bike to move Buell into the world spotlight. Erik should be proud!

Evil bruitish bull of a plane that could haul a crap load of ordinance, smash it's way in, dump a load of hurt, and come back to do it again.

My other favorite is the A-10. Ugly, knuckle draggin', dirty bastard of a mutt dog that you don't want to piss off. It'll gnaw off it's own leg and still come after you.

I guess it's why I like Buells.

Had a nice ride out to the Dragon today. 1 city-X, 1 9s, 3 Uly's, 1 fast V-Rod, and 1 1125r!

Had a tough start this morning, Uly rear tire is shot. It was flat coming out of the shed. Big damn electricians screw. Replaced it with a big damn plug and away we go! New tire came in last week, but the shop is closed till Wednesday.

And a beautiful day it was. Down to Maryville, across the Dragon and back, over Foothills Parkway and back home. Just another great ride on the Uly. Sun shining and mostly dry roads. Temps around 55F. I could do it again!

Thanks guys!

You suck! Its 20 degrees with snow and ice on the roads (Iowa). Low tonight 4 degrees without wind chill factored in. No riding in the forseeable future. Rethy

Hey folks- HAPPY 1999+9!!

We had a very nice ride yesterday- with the proper thermal preparations, it was actually pretty damn comfortable out in the wind!!

Made one run thru to the store, then most of us needed to get back to town for party preparations. Road conditions at the Gap were near perfect- most of the leaves were down, which greatly improves the sightlines thru the switchbacks. This is my favorite time to ride the Dragon- PLEASE DON'T TELL ANYONE... ;)

As for my buddy on the 1125R, it was his first time thru EVAR along with his riding buddy on the V-Rod. Both did well, but it looks like gas range on the 1125R was overestimated, by about 5 miles from the pump.
(I missed this, as I turned back home via the Foothills instead of straight back 129.)

Are we seeing a trend toward low MPG's on these as-yet broken in motors? Shame if we can't at least approach the mileage seen on the pushrod motors... hopefully the broken in powerplants will do better.

Thanks to my buds who made it out for some good riding- and here's to MUCH MORE good riding for the new year!!!

PS- Mark, Vern, any pics? I've gotta finish my puny little disposable before I can post...

My new years resolution: Get with the 21st century and update all my computer stuff, phone, and muzaks

plus 1- RIDE MORE!!!

I posted a still photo gallery and five videos of 1125R footage including the footage of me following the 1125R on our dragon run. I suggest watching the videos in order from 1 to 5. For some reason the gallery displays them left to right from 5 to 1. The Dragon Run video is uploading now so if you don't see it check back. Enjoy!

I got the Dragon run video to load finally. Good job Mark! I think that the little bit of shakiness seen in the video isn't from the mount, or the wind. It was probably shivering from being cold! Shady spots were probably forty degrees or so. I was glad there was no ice.

I found out that you really cannot go as fast when the temperatures are in the forties verses the seventies. The tires did not warm up to grip as they normally would have. I had the front slide out a couple of inches on one of the corners when I tried to push it some.

In the warmer temps I usually wear off the side rubber on both tires to where they are scuffed. This trip you could only see that they had been on the sides but no roughing of the rubber.
