I have to be careful. I might end up liking my own efforts.

Still don't like it. Looks like the XBS to much Rocket. It needs a new tail, new airbox shape, new headlights, new fly screen. Frame can stay.

I like my XBS as much as my old tuber. Buell with the XB had a all new bike to get excited about. But a motor is not enough to get me to buy. I need a all new design.

Rocket doesn't even like the XB chassis, why is it the basis for his drawrings?

I was looking for something completely different than the in lines I owned in the past when I found the 96 S1. Not sure any other Buell would have caught my eye like that naked trellis framed exposed v-twin did. Haven't found anything I would rather own than what I have but I do believe that the XB and 1125R owners feel the same way about theirs and that's a beautiful thing man!

Sean, have you tried a TT yet?

It's the only XB that floats my boat.

I fell in love with an M2, & for me nothing can ever be the same as a tuber.

I have to agree partly with you, I think also that Buell could have done better with the 1125. (jeez that sounds like an end of term report)

I'm also sure they know it, but cost & manufacturing constraints still apply.

I don't see Mr Buell as someone who is EVER satisfied completely with a bike.

The 1125 I see as an evolution not a revolution.

It'll be interesting to see where things go from here.

Perhaps Mr B will hook up with Lazareth, now that WOULD produce some radical stuff!!

It's not. That is a crude photoshop I did of the 1125. As for the XB, it's not for me, but I see its appeal. Much more so in S form. For me the XB is too small. The dummy fuel tank looks out of proportion with the rest of the bike, and the XB 'frame' takes up too much of the bike. The swing arm to frame angle doesn't transition well in my opinion. Mainly due to how the design of both frame and swing arm are an attempt to match both shapes. As for the TT, I found it a little to fat old motocross meets skinny supermoto looking for my palate.

As for Lazareth, I said the same thing myself recently Grumps, though I don't think I'd like any marriage of the two. Interesting how Erik was keen to have is photo taken with him. Lazareth website has 'official' links to Harley and Buell, which is not the case for other manufacturers.

I liked the "tubers" because I thought it's what the Sportster should have evolved into. Glad it didn't though, I like Sportsters too much. I really liked the XBs after I rode it for the first time, even though it hides most of that beautiful Sportster mill.
Don't like that nasty looking, non Harley-Davidson engine in the 1125, although it does match the nasty styling of the rest of the bike.
I never bought Buells to be the "fastest", I'm not the guy who spends 10k in motor upgrades to make a v-twin go marginally faster. I'm the guy who enjoys his AIR COOLED v-twin for what it is and spends the other 10k with Suzuki for the times that I want to go REALLY FAST (and no, you won't pass me in the curves either) with NO excuses.

I'm a great advocate of such bravado on the Internet. Such comment always leads to the author branded a squid or some such thing. If the comment was made face to face, those listening have a number of other languages to read from the author, which helps with the response returned. Be it, "wow he really is that fast", or a barrage of laughter. On the Internet though, it's cut and dried, anyone saying such is an idiot. That of course is not entirely determinable on the Internet without further comment. Good on ya Al. One in the eye for the upright and sensible!

You know,i used to like Rocket's commentary because i criticize dear Erik's past mistakes qualitywise and liked that Rocket had similar criticisms.I felt you were likeminded. But you've departed from that into a constant critic of ALL things Buell. They haven't made a bike you like in about a decade.Consider(again) moving on.This is too much misrableness and derision. At LEAST this thread should be under the "Backfire board" instead of the main topics.Custodians please consider this as a request.Sorry Rocket,we used to be likeminded....no more tho

And just when the place was getting lively.

Okay, first I'll comment on the stoning of Rocket...

Do people on here really let him get under their skin that badly that they feel he needs to be booted? We all need to do a little growing up - this is an internet forum for god's sake. I don't agree with everything the guy says, but I don't have to. And when he says something I don't agree with, I don't feel the need to to grab my rifle and sail across the pond to set the record straight.

That said, he has said some things that I DO agree with. The Tubers were beautiful bikes. I happen to really like the XBs, more so than the tubers, but then again, I'm of a different generation and therefore appreciate different things. And for the record, the 1125R is a disgusting looking bike, despite any technological wonders it may contain. It's just plain ugly. If a bike can't look good in photos, then it can't look good in person.

So now, moving onto the question stated in the original post... I happen the think Buell still does build bold and beautiful bikes. I can't think of another new bike I'd rather have than my Firebolt (though there are many I would like to have alongside it).

"Interesting how Erik was keen to have is photo taken with him."

Erik is pretty much "keen to have his picture taken with" just about anyone who asks.

You are drifting off your own topic and once again getting into personal commentary.

I for one appreciate that you've started your own thread to discuss your own views of Buell motorcycles.

So, back on topic...

One of the most aesthetically enticing motorcycles I've ever seen is the black and gold XB12R. That bike is drop dead gorgeous, in photos, in person, on the road, parked outside, in the garage, it simply is beautiful. If I were prone to silly absolutist statements, I might say that there isn't a person on the planet who would disagree.

I too find the XBS's a good looking bike. There are other bikes I'd own in front of one, but I would own one.

"If a bike can't look good in photos, then it can't look good in person."

I've seen plenty of photos in which the 1125R looks beautiful. I've seen some where it doesn't. Some photos of motorcycles, those produced using a short focal length lens (wide angle lens), can horribly distort the proportions of various parts of the bike.

The front view of the bike is spectacular. The side view not so much. I still haven't seen one in person.

Exactly my point. A beautiful bike is beautiful from all angles. If you have to take the picture from a certain angle for the bike to look good, then it's not a good looking bike.

A girl can look pretty head on as well, but if you turn her sideways and she has a 6" long nose on her, is she still a pretty girl?

Is this where I get to chime in about my utter lack of enthusiasm for the cancellation of the Dirt 450? : | THAT was supposed to be my next Buell. Damnit man, bring out that Rotax 280-320 lb 450cc rotax power dual sport/ super motard dirt squirter. Leave the MX non legal bike to the foreigners.... Take a hard look around the industry. The track record of bland lil klrs for over 20 years ought to let somebody know that there is a market for this bike. : | hell if a company out of korea can do it, why cant Buell ? (Hyosung SM450)

interesting thread.

MV looks. I think it looks very much like the universal japanese motorcycle. Nothing like the mv of the old days. those were pieces of artwork. The new mv is just too sterile.

Buell Tubers. I love the looks of them. Raw, you can see the motor, etc. I love the manta ray tank design, fairing, etc. I personally like the airbox. I had it painted to match the bodywork, and it looks great.

New Buells. I like the idea of the gas in the frame, the oil in the swingarm, fewer parts, good idea. overall, they do not float my boat,in looks or in how they feel when I sit on them. But I have seen some customized buell xb's that are knock outs.

I love the new look of the air cooled motor from Buell. Very nice. It should not be covered up. I wish I could put that motor in my tube frame buells.

New 1125 R. I like the looks of the motor and the fairing is my favorite part of the bike. The shot in the ads with the buell coming toward you on the track is a work of art. Sometimes the buells do not always come together from the front of the bike to the back. Sometimes they seem mostly like various pieces that come together. I cannot wait to ride one and see how the motor is.

Personally the new 1125 is not for me at its current state. I need a more up right bike, with lower foot pegs. I can wait, since I love my current S1, S2, and M2 Buells.

Current Japanese bikes. No interest at all. They all look exactly the same. The honda, the yamaha, the kawasaki, etc. All the same look. Very sterile, and all the same.

Triumph. A different story. Nice Bonnevilles and street triples.

Victory motorcycles. Again, a great looking bike. The hammer is a great looking bike.

I like the looks of the Moto Guzzi Quota, the Yamaha TDM 850, the Honda CB 450 Bomber, the Yamaha XS 650, the Yamaha V Max, the new Ducati Classics, and the new concept Honda Six Automatic bike. Very nice.

REX

Just when I thought we were all going to have a really grown up, adult, discussion.

The clue's in the title, I've reread the thread entirely, & I can see no unjustified personal abuse from Rocket, & no justification for censure of him.

As for the "poo" thing, sorry Blake I think that's a bit shoddy, & entirely unwarranted.

I'll have a drink with you in spirit Sean.

if u cant handle a little truth dont read it...buell being the be all end all is kinda retarded..nifty bikes for what they are made for...most of rockets posts are defending himself against dumb@sses...ive seen him engage in spirited intelligent conversations with others that have something to bring to the gun fight besides a bowl of pudding...the bravado of my buell can whoop ur inline and all that crap can go home...im sorry my buell was a hoot and a half and i loved the way my 9 looked like some id just drop in on the garage just to peek at her...if u have ever truely taken an inline liter bike and thrashed it u would know...they are damn fine machines..i dont ever see anyone of my skill level passing me in a corner just because they own a buell...not gonna happen...a buell XB is a serious weapon in the hands of a serious rider but anyone of equal skill isnt going to pass me cause they ride a buell...my honda handles damn nice and is damn fast...cyaaa bye....rockets been here a long time and knows his stuff...maybe a tad misguided a time or two...but the old guard holds water with me...im bettin i could learn a lot more from rocket then fresno...maybe fresno is bitter because he lives in..well fresno hahahaha....at least if u disagree with rocket he's up for a rousting debate...others..well they just puff up their chest or say go away...maybe they just dont have the skills to stand brain to brain with the man...i bet if i had to argue a point with him i go away smarter and a little slightly beat up ...cmon give the guy a break...belive me ive disagreed with his posts more than once...by the way the 1125 is ugly i case ya'll missed that...but in the hands of the right person and given some time im bettin it turns into somethin special...just my 10c.

rocket was just trying to get some activity started on the board, with some discussion time.

funny though. if you go to other boards of particular brands, and try to knock the bikes, you are usually invited to leave.

buell riders seem to be motorcycle enthusiasts overall most of the time. but we are proud of our bikes, and what they do. whether looks, torque, handling, etc.

blood is thicker than water, and it gets tough sometimes to always hear negatives about bikes you like, especially on a board specifically for that brands enthusiasts.
