Quoted from MCN - "The new bike ups capacity from 900cc to 1200cc with a motor from Harley-Davidson's 1200 Sportster"

6 hp more..thats the UK version & they are down from US versions as it is.

No mention if Buell will keep offering the 984cc version.

The guys over in the UK..specifically the press has already seen the new Buells. Matt from Trojan horse gave up some info & its in the issue of MCN they get..it wont hit us for a while yet.

Something about a different frame as well, but no answer yet if its bigger or just polished/chromed/whatever.

In the UK, the XB9 cost 7395 (british pounds) the XB12 (per Dyna) is 7995 (pounds) so a difference of 600. ($978 at today's rate).

List on the XB race kit is $619.

Dyna...where you getting your info? The reason I'm asking is because I saw a black framed XB with red rims leaving the factory about a month ago. I just thought is was someone with the carbon frame covers and some powdercoated rims.

I've heard it said that mankind's favorite sport is Jumping to Conclusions. Maybe that 6 horsepower is accompanied by a torque curve that's as flat as a Kansas Interstate and about 10 Pounds-Feet higher than what the Thunderfart puts out. And gold wheels with a black frame could look pretty good. I'll reserve judgment until I see it.
What I don't understand is how people can badmouth a bike they haven't seen yet, based purely on the conjectures of other people who know nothing about the bike.

The black & gold may look cool, but wasnt that done to death in the 80's with the Yamaha midnight specials along with a few other bikes?

I guess its keeping the Harley theme alive..the new screaming eagle bikes are black with gold rims.

The new very hot Subaru WRX STi comes in black with gold rims also. Saw one yesterday. Perhaps Buells is trying to market to a new crowd.

Actually the black and gold thing was done, and nicely too, by Norton, Velocette, AJS . . . . and likely others . . .. . .

definately old school, but still tasty, I'm thinkin

Why MCN has the scoop first? Actually I am pretty sure that all the mags have the info and they have a date which is the supposed "official" release date.

The mags honor the embargo as it is called because they don't want to be left off the list next time and they don't want to lose advertising.

there is some flexibity on the date based on magazine production times.

MCN probably is not real concerned about getting left off the PR list, not getting advertising or test bikes. They are pretty importatn in the British and European market and H-D has a lot less clout there than they do in the US.

MCN hasn't really blown the embargo, they are just pushing the envelope and saying the H-D can't stop us.

To put you all out of your misery..........

Bigger bore Buell XB

BUELL is launching faster, more powerful and torquier versions of its XB9S and XB9R - as our world first picture, above, reveals.

The new XB12S will go on sale later this year. A semi faired version will follow called XB12R.
The new bike ups capacity from 900cc to 1200cc with a motor from Harley-Davidson's 1200 Sportster. No power or torque figures are available but expect power to be up around 6bhp from 90bhp and torque to rise from 63ftlb to around 70ftlb.
The new 1200's share Buell's radical frame and swingarm which stores the fuel in the frame and oil in the swing arm.
Our picture shows the new bike will have a black frame and swingarm and gold wheels in place of the XB9's silver items.
No one at Buell is commenting on the new bike yet, despite the fact that we'll be publishing our first test on it next week.
Both versions of the new bike are expected to cost around £7500. It's not yet clear whether they will replace or run alongside the XB9S and XB9R.

The picture shows a red XB12S with black frame and swingarm, gold wheels and the seat subframe is silver(alloy) and it is NOT a 1200 Sportster motor (dumb f**ks). Looks great.

Monday night at our American Sport BikeN meeting,Reg Kittrelle was there talking about doing a Battletrax for the foreign press for the 2004 intro,so they have seen the bike before the US dealers who are supposed to see it on the 16th(I think). Both Reg and the regional Buell rep that were there wer very closed mouth. One sales guy I saw this week did as much as say there is something new.

Roger, thats my feeling is the Sportys will definately be getting the XB motor. Doesnt make sense for Harley to continue production of the 2 sizes of XB motors & 2 sporty powerplants.

Kinda goes back full circle to the talk we had a while back about Buells being a test bed for Harley. Run the motors in the Buells for awhile to get a feel for real world testing & then release it into the sportys.

Amazing what one can find by just looking for it:
XB12RXB12Rclose
From moto-station
Looks like a preproduction model, or a privately customized XB9R

Can someone translate the following:

quote:

As far as I'm concerned a Sportster 1200 has an Evo motor, so NOT A 1200 SPORTSTER MOTOR is present tense. If what you imply is the case to be then MCN wrote the article without making that reference. In any case do we really have to be so damn picky on this board for f**k sake. Next time go and buy your own copy. It's £1.60.

Don't believe everything you read in MCN -- no, better make that: Be careful believing anything you read in MCN. They definitely do not have the facts right here.
