hey guys and gals,
I'm looking into a new jacket and need to know if anyone else has this or would suggest it?

I currently have a Firstgear Speed jacket.

and it works okay. has a liner and neck wrap which I like, but the wind still goes through the vents when closed.

I'm looking into this jacket......

http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=&L2=&L3=&L4=&item=FMI_FMM202-FBZ-XS_G&tier2=309

Want something under $150 and that will keep my butt from freezing!
At cycle gear in Plano (by me) this exact same jacket has a label that reads "HMC" well im pretty sure its that, I know its 3 letters. the website says is street and steel by motoboss?

So anyone used one? what do you think compared to something like my other jacket.
its been about 38 degrees these past few mornings on the way to work, and its chilly!!!

Plus I think that street and steel jacket looks cool! I want to get one like that, then send my yamaha blue helmet to get painted black with a pegasus on the back.

thanks all! any help is greatly appreciated!

If you're on a budget and are looking for warmth, google "heated clothing." Buy a fleece jacket you like and sew heated elements into it. $50 for a heated fleece jacket. Then get a jacket that has at least one "storm flap" over the zipper - that jacket above will freeze you solid as the wind cuts right through.

Then add heated grips to your bike ($25 elements + $7 grips)

Stay warm!

I bought this last week. Gore-Tex, Knox armour. My old jacket the wind was eating right thru it. You'd be pressed to get a gore-tex shell for $139 from a hiing store let alone something for m/c use. It was free shipping too.

Combination I went with was a bit more than $150 but parts of it could work for you.

Heated vest from Aerostich (look in the sale section) $160-240
Heated handlebar inserts (Polly Heaters) $30

Windproof liner/jacket from LL Bean $100
Aerostich motorcycle jacket $300

If going w/ a leather jacket then go w/ Vanson stuff.

Buy high quality stuff the first go round, you'll not be buying something else in a year or two. Some old BMW motorcycle rider gave me that advice. My gear has held up very well w/ many thousand miles on it.

In winter, motorcycle riding, my sense of style tends to go out the window.

Check out Fox Creek Leather also. make sure to find the "blowout" section.

If your going to buy leather dont buy the cheap stuff. The zippers are where they skimp the most.

Check out new Enough.com too They have a Closeout & Bargin bin section. The had some PowerTrip jackets (joe rocket) for $89.

+1 on Fox Creek Leather

I have a jacket from Fox Creek and it is one of the nicest I have ever seen. They are made in the USA by Americans and the customer service is better than any company I have ever dealt with. They will also do custom sizes for not a lot more than their stock jackets. They have their men's racing jacket on close out right now for $258.00. If it's anything like my Classic I, it will be the last street jacket you will ever need to buy.

www.foxcreekleather.com

Look in the "sale" section.

A close fitting leather jacket is like wearing saran wrap when it get's cold! Add an uncovered zipper like that and the wind will feel like needles coming through it!
Get a longer cut textile jacket with a liner (and covered zipper!) or at least a leather jacket with liner that specifically advertises that it is good in the temperature range you are looking to ride in.
Though I'm sure there is other cold weather gear that is better, I've worn my Tour Master Transition jacket well into the 30's and it isn't my core that gets cold. 40's and higher is no problem at all.....
I'm pretty sure it falls in you price range, looks really good IMO and you can get it at newenough.com

If you go leather, I can also recommend Fox Creek Leather. I have had my FCL jacket for about five years now and it will likely last me till I am too old to get my leg over a bike. It is HEAVY. It does have a zip out liner. If it is not warm enough I would get an electric liner to wear under it. Here in the Sunshine State, that is not an issue for me though.

Try cold gear from Under Armor. Its skin tight and fits under everything. You'll be surprised at how well it works. Dont have the bulkiness of regular long lohns.
