Good for you for rescuing her and giving her a good life. She was one very spoiled puppy. We've rescued a total of 3 Old English Sheepdogs. I'm sure there are more in our future, they just haven't found their way to us yet. One of my favorite threads is the rescue of Taos. What a cool rescue by some really great BadWeBrs. U4euh - great e-mail. I think the kid has nailed it! They love us even when we're not at our best. |

Here is a little poem that my mom shared with me when we lost our furry friend. I googled it as soon as I read the thread, but only found this less eloquent version. Nonetheless, the point being made is the same. I hope you find comfort in it as have I... Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal that has been especially close to someone here passes on, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... My condolences for your loss. Celebrate the joy that your pup brought to your family. -Travis (Message edited by TORQUEMONSTER on December 05, 2007) |

We had our family pet "Lucy" put down about 3 weeks ago as well. She was part Black Lab/Setter mix and was a little over 14yrs old. Myself and my daughter found her on the side of a highway near an outport community when she was about 2 mths old. Very difficult to let go but she was losing the use of her rear legs and was refusing to eat, we also suspected heart problems. A trip to the vet confirmed that nothing could be done for her. |

Sorry to hear about Monster. I like the first pic. Is that your son with his arm around him? |

Yes the first picture is Monster and my son Sean back when Monster was about 1 year old. Although we will all miss Monster, Sean is taking it the hardest since he was the closet to him. (Best Friends) I hope you don't feel like I hijacked your thread but I came across it while I was trying to get my mind off Monster and was feeling all the same things you all are feeling right now. Kind of surprising how attached you get to an animal. Might sound silly but I feel more grief for Monster than I did for my own grandmother that passed earlier this year. Without a doubt he was a very important part of the family. |

Neal - no hijack at all! Pets are truly part of our families. It is sometimes very hard for our children to deal with the loss of a pet. Your heart breaks all over again to see them in so much pain. |
