How'd I know there would be a post so soon? Strange place we have here...

I thought the show was quite a bit larger than usual, and the snow didn't seem to keep anyone away.

I did get a chance to chat with Cory Ness, He was showing this cool bicycle like custom chopper. It had very large (22+ in) thin wheels, just like a beach cruiser.

I did enjoy the fact that we got special swag, the patches never arrived, so they instead gave us t shirts.

Sorry I didn't take any pictures. I don't know if Brian did, but if he didn't he probably could tomorrow.

Yes I did get a job offer. The head of J&M headsets saw my navigation system. We were playing with one of their Bluetooth headsets, and he liked what he saw. He wanted me (actually my company) for contract work.

Too bad I suck at programming, and my developer does not specialize in BT stacks.

Spend the afternoon at the Seattle show. Like Molly the 1125 isn't for me...yet! The Buell booth was packed, no patch but I too got a t-shirt from the nice young lady.

KTM had their biggest display ever for IMS but no RC8. They have brought back the single cylinder Duke now with the exhaust under the engine ala Buell.

I really liked the 250 Ninja, looks like it could be a bunch of fun! All the other Japanese bikes were well, Japanese.

All in all a good time, no surprises and nothing that I couldn't live without.

I arrived at 9:25 and got in the back of a long line of people waiting to get out of the cold when the show opened at 9:30. Jamie, I didn't call you as you said you would be there later.

The Buell gal was nice, but rather young, don't you think? Okay, its all relative. I upgraded my Buell.com status and got one of the funky new Buell shirts.

One bike that piqued my curiosity:
Built in Oklahama City, powered by their own 750cc v-twin. The Ridley. Interesting.

Sometimes the primal basics of a single-cylinder motorcycle are very appealing:

But this new Sportster is also pretty primal as well:

The suspension on my '03 XB9S just kills the Sporty's. Cycle World called the shocks "The best $5 spent". LOL!

Overall, I liked the show this year. I waited three years before returning because it didn't change much year to year. Still hasn't! Except the $13 entry ticket. Glad I got mine last week at the local shop for $8.

Too many gawdy cruisers (Star, for one) and styling miscues (BMW F80, imho). Nice old vintage bikes and lots of accessories. Those wild riders in the cage sure are amazing.

The place got crowded around noon when I left.

Here's an "interior" shot of the 1125R:

got a good touchy feely look at the fisher...interesting bike..im kinda bettin thats what the RC8 looks like up close... a lot of hard sharp lines..but nice...KTM did have a huge showing...i always have a hard time figuring out what ktm is what a lot of slightly similar defenitions of about the same bike....but i went with 2 KTM freaks so we spent a lot of time there....im with the prof on the little kawi thing..it was a lot nicer than anybody elses liter bike just about..all the other jap bikes were boring im glad i have an 06 cause 08 is a bad year for new bikes...but then again its more about the people u meet on two wheels not the type of two wheels ya ride huh...i bet most of us would love to have a chance to meet rocket in person and have a good spirited chat amongst the motorcycles at a show ...i bet it would be a hoot.

I'm with Molly on the 1125R. The seating position is like the Firebolt's. The XB9S position is what I prefer and a long version probably would do me better.

I'll test-ride the 1125R after next week, mostly to check out the motor. Could be a good light-weight touring lump.

i was suprised at how aggressive the seating position was after all the hullabuloo about the ergo's of the 1125...it aint no touring ride imo...that seating is aggressive just as much so as my CBR ....by the way i was sittin on the can readin all my ill gotten goodies and brochures and it reminded me of rockets thing about the use of different metals an such on the katooms vs the 1125....well he's right and wrong...u get close to a KTM and start lookin and feelin...and they sure are nice those ktm's brembo's and perfect fit and finish just darn nice motorcycles...then u look at the buells...it seems that u can really tell the difference ...2 different mindsets trying to achive the same goal...the buells have those nice 47 mm fatty forks up there and a few other choice parts its funny how each manufacurer picks what is going to made well and what has to suffer...adjustable rearsets on the 1125...very nice...sure wish the RC8 had been there...its all about the little things at this point and which ones make u happier..by the way the fit and finish on the 1125 was pretty near flawless from what i saw...i no expert on any of this crap but im the guy with just enough information and motivation to be dangerous...im the regular guy that wants a new bike..the itralian bikes its the same, fine bits and pieces where they think its important...i guess ya just gotta compare and decide which bits are for u...damn tough...that duc 848 i just cant get it outta my head though.

I just dropped brian off at his hotel. I mentioned to him that some of you wanted photos.

He is willing to take any photos you want, just post here and I will forward the request.

ProfS, I looked at the Ridley. Their automatic (CVT) transmission is awfully large. It really looked out of place against the relatively small motor. Also I think in your first photo you caught Brian from the side.

I agree 100% with what MollyH said about the 1125r. The ergos reminded me of a late nighties Honda VFR. It did have a lower seat hight than I was expecting, but then again I ride a Cityx, so everything is shorter.

Did anyone notice what a mob scene the Ural booth was. That certainly surprised me. I never got a chance to sit on any of their products.

Yeah, I saw my old Honda CL175 upstairs and remembered the good times I had on that little beast, so much more powerful than my previous Honda 90. But I was about 50 pounds lighter back in those days...

Speaking of Ural:

Ural

The rep there said all come with sidecar. The motor, basically similar to a 60's BMW, is 750cc and make the Ural capable of freeway speeds. Around $12k for most versions.

i saw one of those on the freeway weeks ago i was on my bike so i couldnt get a real good look at it...i thought it was some old school restoration...itd be cool without the side car ...i could fit a lot of sammitches in the car though..hhhmmm mobile cooler....i talked to the guy upstairs that was reppin for the restoration guy...im going to frame the cards they were givin out ..we all had a good laugh at the fact that even when one of us had one the bikes he had they didnt look anything like his by the time our dads, uncles, or neighbors let us ride a bike it was already trashed..wish i had the bank to let him do something for me...it was very nice to just be amongst riders..being a smoker i went outside a few times .. u get reminded it dosent really matter what the hell anybody rides, talking to other riders and looking at all the different bikes lined up in the snow u get the feeling were all just a group of slightly bent people that are one big family...thats easy to forget here when one goes off on a tangent.

I'll deviate a bit from bikes for a minute. I was amazed at the number of inexpensive DOT and Snell approved helmets. Zox, Fulmer, and a revitalized Bell. They all appeared to be well made with lots of features and color options, not up to Arai standards.

Arai and Shoei had nothing new or exciting, no colors or designs that stood out. Both continue to set the benchmark for quality. HJC and KBC are getting closer!

I think the Bells are so affordable because they are now made in Asia, most likely China.

But what is good is the choice of helmets for all of our different shaped heads. I tried to get a Shoei to replace the crashed one, but the helmets didn't fit as well as the Arai Vector which I bought.

As long as your freeway speed limit is 55--- IIRC the Ural folks told Reg that 62 mph was the max.

and make the Ural capable of freeway speeds.

50 mph on a good day, and it's liable to blow if you run it all day at that speed. Trailered my buddies home last fall. I know of 2 in this area and both have been supplied new motors. Good for lots of waves, but limited capabilities.

Crazy off road performance with full knobby tires from drunken russian mindsets.... I have always coveted one of those. If the garage was big enough and the wallet was deep enough... Eto bydet mou noviuy motocyckle. I will post the pics I have when I get into the office to down load the card reader, it never works from home. It was great to see some BadWebbers there and meet a bunch of people excited about the Buells. 1125r at our shop 12/21 ;)
