Evel was the man and like many of you I carry the scars of my childhood emulation of Evel.

My favorite Evel story is the one told by The Wide World of Sports reporter (the name is escaping me and using Google would be a cheat,,it is my favorite story : ) ) Evel was in Vegas to do the Cesar's Palace jump and part of his pre-jump preparation was to hook up with some chick -- he was married at the time. After the crash, as he was laying on a stretcher all busted up, the first thing he said was "get that broad out of my room."

When I heard this I was truly touched.
Evel was my hero, he influenced me more than my own Dad.
I will miss him.

When I was 10 years old, I couldnt get enough of Evel Knievel. I watched his jumps on the Wide World of Sports . I made a scrapbook of newspaper articles about him (which I still have).I raced my Honda XR75 around my backyard doing wheelies and jumping anything I could . At 44 years old, I still have my Evel Knievel toy and the shirt my mother made me .

He will be missed by many. Did a good job of living by his own rules. I have a few toys from my childhood and will hold them dearer now. Sad but I guess all our heros eventually will pass.
