I have the pleasure this time of year of riding to work headed east around 6am then gong home around 4:30ish going west... I hate the "low" sun this time of year. I'm really thing MX lid for the visor. Any input on using a MX lid for the street? | ||

Rumor has it they can put a lot of strain on your neck. (due to the large visor catching a lot of wind). The guys in Long Way Round didn't seem to mind much though... and they did something like 20,000 IIRC. (Message edited by Mikef5000 on November 29, 2007) | ||

That is a cool helmet. I wear an MX helmet when I take the KLR on a dual sport ride... I don't want a low speed flop to crunch a $400 Schuberth, and I don't want to pack along two helmets. The visors are nice, but they do catch wind when you turn your head. Annoying, but not unmanageable. | ||

I have this helmet:  Ordered it from Japan last year. Wish I would have ordered an XL. The large size is more like a medium HJC. Only wore it a couple of times since it gives me pain in the forehead. However, the concept is excellent. Visor works great, but you don't want to turn your head too much over 70 mph. | ||

I used to use a gryphon motocross helmet with separate Oakley goggles when I was had the KLR250. LOTS of wind drag with the visor on the highway. Sucky in the rain too. It was DOT approved though. I rode with that lid for three years. (I was broke and didn't know any better.) | ||

In a pinch, you can use tape strips across the top of your visor. Duct tape would be most fashionable. | ||

How does it fit compared to a large Shoei? I wear a large in every Shoei I've ever put on my head. I'm running RF1000 right now. I think sizing runs pretty similar. After buying the Hornet, I tried on an RF1000 over at Bike Week and they felt similar in size. I believe the Shoei helmets are made for more of a round shape head. I have that neanderthal forehead that makes Shoei helmets fit too tight front to back. I end up with a big red spot on my forehead after wearing it for more than 30 minutes. One nice thing about the Hornet is the weight. It's light as a feather. I was thinking about throwing it on eBay and see if I could recover a couple of bucks on it. It isn't doing me any good sitting on the shelf in my garage. | ||

Duct tape will likely leave a glue residue. I have used 3M colored masking tapes many times for this problem. It blocks the sun well and if you remove it right after your ride it will come off without leaving any residue or marks. I don't recommend cheap tapes, they can leave glue behind and if it gets wet it will never come off when it dries. |
