This is just interesting.

Guy tasered for not following directions.

Do you think this guy has a case with a good lawyer?

NO !!

Not complying to sign a Uniformed Traffic Citation is grounds for an arrest.

If he disregards verbal commands he has to accept that LEVELS of force will be used to gain compliance.

SIGNING a ticket DOES NOT mean you are GUILTY it is just recognizing that you RECIEVED a copy of the citation.

He should have signed it and gone to court.

I don't even think he'd need a GOOD lawyer.

For the officers on this board- was that considered actively resisting?

The guy had his hand in his pocket and was acting threatening by fiddling around with it.

He's lucky he's not dead.

DJkaplan,

++ 1..

Yes not signing IS resisting...

He and his WIFE are VERY lucky. She exits the vehicle and tries to approach... that is a BIG officer safety issue...

I could disect the ENTIRE stop... There are several things the officer does that is NOT safe...

But in the end.. the DRIVER is WRONG.

Its hard explaining everything to NON Law Enforcement Individuals.

Until you have done this job.. you really do not get a sence of the dangers.

I know there are some that think Police pick on people.... but.. they are doing a job that is EXTREMELY dangerous and nerve racking.

There is NO point to getting into a pissing contest on the side of the road with a officer... YOU WILL LOOSE everytime.

Thankfully... no one was seriously hurt..

That stop could have been COMPLETELY different for that family.

There are some people who shouldn't be cops, just as there are people who shouldn't be doctors. I heard this from a cop, btw.

I would make neither a good cop, nor a good doctor.

Tazers are non-lethal instruments to obtain compliance. Twenty years ago, they had pistols, shotguns, and batons. The tazer has the least residual impact to the suspect.

Officers are not judges and juries. Arguing your case with the officer is the wrong thing to do. Show the officer respect and argue your case to the judge.

I got poked in the head with a Maglite by a cop when I was 15 for not complying fast enough when he told me to turn around and leave the area.

I knew the next poke was gonna hurt a lot worse, so I complied my ass off.

There's been big debate over tasers here.
It would seem the criminals don't like it too much. What seems funny to me is it seems they'd rather the use of lethal fource.
One of the local talk show hosts supports law enforcement (as should we all) so much he decided to get tasered himself, it made for an interesting radio show. He posted a video of the event on Google.

Up here across the line, the use of tasers is getting huge media coverage after the death of a Polish gentleman at Vancouver airport. They can be lethal. In this case, it was probably not the taser that killed the gent but the care he was given after he was subdued. His heart stopped, but that was after four officers sat on his chest until he stopped moving. Sad note is that there was a defib. only thirty seconds away. For those wondering, the airport was quite responsible in the frustration that led to the whole incident. One week later, another person died 12 hours later after complications indirectly from the use of the taser. Needless to say, the media hype is borderline ridiculous.

I think the taser can be a very effective tool when proper procedures are followed.

I think they are a good tool in the hands ofthe right people, having said that I have no intention of being a victom, but if I am for not moving fast enough as a former heart patient, me and my lawers will try to own as much of the city or state property as possible.

Wont do any good once the heart stops. It can only shock a irregular heart back to normal, not jump start one that has quit.

They used to restart hearts all the time on the TV show "EMERGENCY!". Apparently, all you need to do is start an IV drip of Ringer's lactate and call Bobby Troup and Julie London.

The taser has been a GREAT tool for the job.

While it is true that some have died AFTER being tased... MOST have been confirmed as having a BAD heart condition.

However.... It is FAR supperior to being SHOT with a Glock .40 cal... I can PROMISE that if I put (2) to your chest and (1) to your head... you WONT have worry about the after affects.

On MOST use of force policies the Taser is JUST above VERBAL COMMANDS, which makes it a VERY influential tool.

**ON THE TOPIC OF THE GIRL BEING TASED 7 TIMES**

I witnesses a guy on DUTY take it 11 times. He was cranked up on METH....

The next day he said he could NOT move and it felt as if he had been run over by a truck.

Hey I been there! I mean the defib thing, had a heart attack a couple of years ago and after they got me to the big city ER the zapped me. I was awake at the time.

I can tell you that yow DO NOT want them to defib nor tazer you! Trust me on that...it was no fun at all. Like having someone hit you as hard as he can in the chest with a 2x4!

I do know that that Tazerings killed 3 people last week in Florida. The problem is the Police don't know if you have heart problems or not and use Tazer like a water gun. Look around they've zapped kids in school, little old ladies (80 something as I recall and yes she died). It's a matter of better taining I think, they'd NEVER give a rookie a gun and send him out on the streets without a buttload of training. BUT it seems like Tazer (Oh they don't really hurt people) are different to a lot of police.

Don't get me wrong I do not hate cops nor do I think they are out to get me. I just think we need to look at this closer.

Thanks wolf...his heart was actually in fibrillation and eventually stopped as the story goes. A heart in fibrillation is not effectively pumping blood so for the layfolk it had stopped working. The taser did not stop his heart. What is unclear is why the ambulatory service was not called to the scene.

I haven't reviewed all of the footage but I would never be violent and threatening to four law enforcement officers, regardless of where I was. The polish man was at fault, and the officers didn't follow all procedures properly. I guess they will all be paying some sort of price for it. Too bad really. There are many folks that I think have deserved more than a tasering for their violence towards officers of the law.

About the 7 through 11 zaps before going down; are those the old-school Tazer that just worked on pain compliance? When I got zapped, it just shut me down with flashbulbs of light, pain, and muscle contractions.

I'm a 6' tall 200 pound former Marine who spends a lot of time in the gym, and when they zapped me, I had NOTHING!

Bill,

We use the NEW X26... It has updated circuits and is said to give a more "SHOCKING" effect... : )

There are some that it does NOT affect... Others.. well they drop like a bucket of poop.

Normally.. the MORE muscle mass the WORST the "ride."
