What the hell, there's two digital camera threads going, I'll add a third.

What I think would be awesome:
Set an "Automatic/Interval shooting" mode to take 1 picture every 10 minutes. Bolt the camera to the handlbars, and RIDE! (not so much for commuting, more for touring or tearing up the twistys) I think you could make cool as hell time-lapse movies of your vacations, and also the chances of you getting some really cool shots are pretty good!

Apparently I'm the only one who thinks that would be cool, because almost every compact digital camera that had an interval shooting feature like that has been discontinued. There were a few camera's from about every brand, but now Olympus and Nikon both make 2, and that's it!

Anybody have any thoughts?

There are accessories that serve this function:
Canon Timer Remote Controller

Given that this one only works with Canon SLR and D-SLR models, but there might be other similar items available for other applications.

Video and the Youtube revolution has made it all a bit redundant.

I wouldn't bother when you can easily mount a vidcam and edit the tape.

Yeah... you can buy small camera's with great clarity and just take stills from the recording.

They even have some that go inside the helmet! There's a guy who does a video blog and just rants when riding his bike and it's Point of View from inside the helmet(w/sound).

I bought a video camera a couple years ago thinking I would do just that. What I ended up with was mediocer quality video that was vibraty and not fun to watch/edit.

I also found that I don't do anything with the videos. Sure, I can throw it on youtube, but nobody cares about most of the video's I take, it's not like I live in the mountains and get to do the amazing mountain runs that are all over youtube. Stills are much easier to save and share.

I've regretted it ever since I bought the small video camera. Now, after too many trips in a car with solid motor mounts, and the tuber buell (vibrations were pretty similar), the thing doesn't even work.

It's only 2 years old. It was a waist of money. I wished I had just gotten a good quality still camera all along.

I guess I just perfer stills over video. I feel I can do more with them.

But then I wouldn't like to mount my good Canon to the bike and expose it to that torture at all.

No probs with a cheapie.
