The 2008 California Superbike School Schedule is up on their website. I've done Pocono so many times I could probably do the East course with my eyes closed. Time for something different.

If you had to make a choice, which track would you choose of these two: VIR, or Loudon?

VIR.
Louden is a fun track in the dry, but if it rains, it's treacherous. Tom Wilson's career ended there, and Miguel DuHamel really messed his leg up from running (and subsequently crashing) on a wet track. Plus, it's owned by someone who has proven that he cares little about rider safety.

Crusty, thanks. But isn't Loudon where Penguin Racing School holds their classes? I HAVE heard a lot of good things about VIR, though.

Yes, Loudon, NH is where the Penguin Racing School holds their classes. In fact, the track holds many motorcycle racing events... including vintage classes. I have worked for the tack during m/c racing events and the staff love m/c racing. All m/c racing is dangerous no matter where you do it.

i prefer loudon over pocono. agree that pocono is probably safer but loudon is just so much more technical that it seems you get more out of it.

++ for the penguin school as well

I'm always amazed at the Pocono East course how many people crash sometimes. There's nothing to hit!! Basically, if you run off the track, just EASE off the throttle and ride it out. I think the instinct is to grab the brakes, and when you do that... down you go!

Keith Code refers that as one of the "Survival Instincts" you want to LOSE. There are three things almost EVERYONE does on a motorcycle when things get "scary:"

1) Chop the throttle (or brake)
2) Stiffen up
3) Look down (or fixate on where you DON'T want to go)

I've run off the track at Pocono and it really is no big deal:
