I ordered a foot peg from CityxSlicker out in WA state. I live in Indiana and it came in a week to the day.

So what's sad? I was told it'd that 10-15 days from the local dealer. So how can CityxSlicker get to me across the country twice as fast as they can?

Time Machine? I though Mr Peabody and Sherman had that!

Anyway I got my peg and NOW it's 30 degs out there and I'm too lazy to go out and ride in the frost!

HA.. I had the same issue.
Local shop said 2 weeks for the pegs. I ordered them from sport twin dot com and go them in about 4 days.

Now my local dealer will not order buell parts unless you leave your bike with them. HA.. That is a joke. I don't go near them anymore.
I will drive from Huntsville, AL to Stone Mountain, GA if I ever need a dealership to work on my bike again.

Maybe the fact that City's dealer keeps a decent stock? Who knows. We deal with the same issues here which is why we buy from our sponsors here on BadWeB. I wish our local dealers would see that we would buy from them if they kept basic parts in stock (foot pegs, brake pedal, clutch lever, mirrors, just to name a few).

Hey guys, I always order ahead of time, and what always prompts me to order ahead of time, when I take a long road trip so I don't get stranded while traveling. In 2006 I had a rider with me up on the Blue Ridge and she crashed and messed up the shift linkage and peg, I thought we where going to camp up there, but I had the old BRAG map with me and contacted a local dealer, BRAG maps come in handy for us on the east coast so we can call west coast dealers for help as well. Anyway ever since that crash I always have spare parts with me. What is getting scary is ordering parts for my old X1! K

I don't go near them anymore.

Neither would I. They are sending you a strong message. I think the time is drawing near to engage.

There should be no problem getting any parts for an X-1.

The mirror, blinker, foot peg repair is pretty common for us, we have a good stock of them ;) Glad you were able to get it fast, hope you get a break in the weather to ride. Speaking of BRAG... ramping up for a big trip here myself soon, thinking that the RAN will be of more help for repairs and fixins now that BRAG is no more. <sniff>

I was amazed at a local dealer telling me that a speedo sensor would take 2 weeks to get. I called Al at American Sport Bike and had ordered on Weds, had part by that Friday! If he has it I dont even bother going anywhere else.

Foreman in stillwater could have it in 7 days(not bad). the guys that were topeka, can't remember where they are at now said pay first and they would call me, wouldn't even promise a date. Can't say enough good about al and joann.

JUST to clear the Air and Pre-empt any flame mail. Legend Harley is NOT a Sponsor of the board (DESPITE MY SEVERAL ATTEMPTS to my marketing manager *he rides a roadking~ and just doesnt get Buell) I would encourage that you promote and shop at the sponsors of the board. I do! Al has been great about getting me the parts that I have needed. Again, please help promote the forum and boards that we enjoy here by supporting the Sponsors. Now if you are looking for some Local R.A.N. help while you are on your rides up in the PNW area , I do know most of the dirty backroads that arent on the maps ;)

Kudo's to Al and Joanne as well from central PA. I was going to go to my local dealer to get my muffler clamp.....

ooops, that's right, I don't have a dealer within 100 miles of me....

American Sport Bike had the front muffler clamp, traction grips and a set of Lyndalls ON HAND! And I had them in 4 days all the way across the good ol' USA

Called my Dayton dealer for turn signals (actually for the KLR) footpegs (for a buddy with a BlackBird) and a battery (for my 9sx).

All three in stock. I didn't even give them my name on the phone, just asking if they had them in stock.

Arrived at the dealer, and they were already pulled out and on the shelf. And the parts guy (not the one I have dealt with before) went out of his way to try and remember who I was (bought the bike there, but since the 9sx is so reliable I don't see them a lot like I used to when I was riding the M2).

There are good dealers out there, and when it is good, it is really good.

Also interesting that Kawasaki (KLR) Suzuki (VStrom) and Honda (Blackbird) guys are all starting to look at Buell parts. They are fairly priced, good quality, and offer designs they can't get from their manufacturers.

I know Buell won't screw this up, but Harley might. Dear factory... keep these parts priced fairly. Consider that selling a pair of turn signals for $20 (a $10 profit) rather then $40 (a $30) profit could result in a guy riding up on a VStrom, but riding away on a Uly. Or riding up on a blackbird and riding away on an 1125r.

I can't think of a better way to get dealer credibility with the import guys then having a viral internet "secret" going around that your local Buell dealer is the best place to get cheap farkles to improve your import...

>>>I know Buell won't screw this up, but Harley might.

That worries me.

I got a report of a meeting a couple weeks ago in which my name was brought up and pretty well maligned.

Many of these folks are much busies seeking someone to blame for meddling in their affairs, than answering their telephone and doing things right.

Generally, anywhere I've been from The White House, The USMC to the construction business, badmouthing someone is nearly always bad business.

Buell, the HD folks who manage the Buell DISTRIBUTION end of things, has plenty of challenges without diluting their efforts.

I dont know why this is such a hard concept. Its capitalism, it is supply and demand and customer service 101. If you dont have the part, you cant sell it. If you arent willing to get the part, you cant sell it. If it takes you an unreasonable amount of time to get said part, you wont sell it. Be friendly, have fun, get the bike back on the road. but maybe thats just me. Nothing good has ever come of putting down your competitors, you never know the day when they are your customer, the company that buys yours out, or the one you need in a pinch of your own.

I proved that during my short stint working at a Buell dealer.

The dealership did not want to stock Buell manuals so I agreed to "consign" some of my own . . . if they sold the dealer got the profit and replaced my manual.

No sooner were they on the shelf that folks would pick them up and look at them. . . by the end of a couple weeks they were gone.

I think, in the right retail environment and with the right product (Buell needs to shit can some of the folks doing clothing and rehire the 1995 staff) you can sell a boat load of stuff. . .
