I watched it happen during my career in the Navy. Seems to be a social problem and a peace time mentality. It makes me sad to see our troops sent into conflicts and not supported by the chain of command and their government.

I'm afraid it's the old trickle-down theory. If you look at society at-large we've become a nation of busybodies, crybabies and wimps. We expect everyone to "be nice" even if your job requires the opportunity to get your azz blowed up.

The future ain't what it used to be.

My nephew joined his regiment a month or so ago and they don't "prop blast" the under age guys anymore. So what? These troopers have all the balls of their predecessors and a lot better gear and training.

For what its worth. The group of young 2LTs that I was blasted with in 1970 was told by the BSM (an old dude who had made the big 6-June jump and was checking the quality of the beverages throughout the night) that all officers were mostly a waste of parachutes, especially the new group (us). He implied that he would be saving lives in the long run if he just shot us all right there.

My point is there are always going to be changes. Every group will look back and think they were the last true holders of the Grail. What is new and untested today will be sacred tradition in 20-30 years.

I have been in the army for the past 6 years and I have noticed a rapid decline in those 6 years of some fun traditions such as blood rank and such. I think this porn situation you speak of has been about for sometime now. Being married or single living off post the whole time I was in the army I did not realize this and when i got here to korea and I am reduced to living in barrecks I put up some random posters of women in bikinis on motorcycles and some various rock band posters on the wall and was told that they were all offencive and had to take them down. And I know in iraq we was not able to have porn mags sent in the mail but we got most of our porn off of the interent any way at that time so it wasnt a big deal.

In WWII, my grandfather had just painted a fine naked woman on his bomber, "Dusty's Double Trouble," when some colonel's wife toured the base. She was so offended by all the nose art that her husband ordered the plane crews to paint over them.

What a bitch.
