FWIW, anybody had a speeding ticket in Sumner County in the last year or so? I got one and was wondering if anyone was able to get driving school versus the points?

I've been able to do this before in other locations. I have a clean (no points/ accidents) record and would like to keep it that way. I even called the "Clerks Office" and they just told me to show up at court. Other locations allowed me to do the drivers school and then submit the diploma and my record was clean again.

BTW this was by a State Trooper on Upper Station Camp Rd. ( a lightly travel county road, just my luck he was cooling off in the trees, it was 104deg that day)

Thanks
Neil S.

Every county and township is different.

I was fortunate enough to meet one of Coopertown, TN's finest. I was clocked at 86 in a 70 on the INTERSTATE (yeah, I guess when your town sucks, you'll pull revenue from just about anywhere you can.)

The ticket was $212.50. I can appear in court or pay the ticket over the internet. There is a $10 surcharge for using credit/debit cards. I can also go to the school to avoid the points. The school is $110 plus $10 credit card surcharge.

What's irritating is the revenue nature of the citation. I don't have to appear in court to pay the ticket. I don't even have to appear in court to go to the school. I can just pay both online, attend the school and remove the points.

I like convenience, but not when that convenience comes at the hand of blatant revenue generation.

Sorry CC, I am fortunate in that I don't know how it works in Sumner County (even though I have lived in Sumner County for 10 years now).

In Davidson County, it wasn't until I appeared before the traffic judge that I was allowed to go to traffic school; but this was the decision by the judge.

Here's a funny one: my wife just recently got a speeding ticket by a Park Ranger at Drakes Creek Park. The speed limit inside the park is 15mph. Normally, the park is jammed packed with activity everywhere; on this Thursday night, the only activity was soccer practice in the far back fields. Needless to say, my wife is stewed! I am saving up bail money before she appears before the judge...!

By the way, charging a person $10 to process a credit card is against Visa and MasterCard operating guidelines. If Visa and MasterCard new they were doing that, they would cut-off processing services.

I recently got zaped in smithville, TN and dover, TN both offered the class to remove the ticket from ur record. Had to go back to the locales for the class. Davidson county offers the class online.

FYI on dover. I did not know dover is speed trap, watch out. They have won several national awards for speeding/dui enforcement.

My dover ticket was 4 over, on a down hill slope, 4 lane, 49 in a 45.

Gallatin, home of the Dummy cops. They have a few patrol cars around town with blow-up dolls in them.

Yes, this is true! However, they also have the new Hemi-powered Charger as patrol cars...

HAHAHAHA, that's the funniest thing I've read in a looooong time. Visa or MC turning down money from processing fees.

We don't have that system or traffic school here.

Why do you need it removed from your record?

In a word - insurance. Points against your license are one thing, but depending on your location, your insurance rates will increase and stay that way for a number of years. In some states that can add up to thousands. It's cheaper to "go to school" and have the incident never show up on your record.

Not all offenses are eligible for school (DUI, for example), and you can only use the school option once every two years - at least here in Arizona.

I see - thanks - record makes no difference here - unless you are before a cop or a judge.

Amongst the boys almost a joking badge of honour.

Premium is calculated on age, location and your amount of previous crashes/claims.

Are we telling war stories? I've got one but it happened to my friend last year. He got popped for a 45 in a 55. The Wildlife Officer at Queen Wilhelmina State Park on Talimina Drive said he observed the rider leaned over too far and deduced that he was driving wrecklessly. Ticket, $300+ dollars.

Another friend went over the double yellows, I think on his way back from passing legally and got a $370 dollar ticket

Apparently, you now have to show up in court period. Some statute has changed, at least in this Judge's mind. If you want to plead guilty you can always send in the $'s and take the points. If you have a clean 3 year record then you can pay the $'s ($139.00 + $40 for driving school in my case) and get everything cleared from your record (except if you have a CDL). I'll be attending Driving school on Dec 13th ;+}.

If I had been issued the same ticket by a Sheriff or a city LEO, the max fine is $50.00. The THP can write it for their own rates.

So..... I'll get a detector on the Buell and keep a better eye out whenever.

Gallatin is NE of Nashville, in between you can't get there from here and, I don't know how to get there. It's a joke since the Cumberland river can only be crossed on the east side by the Hwy 109 bridge or, 20+ miles west. My Wife works 8 miles from work, as the crow flies. With the river it's 22 miles. Maybe they will put that bridge in Hendersonville, maybe I'll be around then too???

You are right about the dummy Cops or, at least empty police cars. They will park an empty car for a few days to get your attention and then usually run a mini-blitz on that area a few days later. Once you get the sequence down, you can sit back an laugh at the cagers getting pulled over. I warned my Wife and she now gets a kick watching what happens. The Hemi Chargers are fun too. The LEO's get a kick out of hearing the groan of the intake when they stomp down. I had one eye-ball me on the r last week and we traded some roll-ons to hear each other's sounds. He rolled down his window at the Lowes and told me he really liked the way my r sounded with the "stock" pipe. We both laughed at that. He rides an H-D with a Screaming-Eagle OEM exhaust.
