AND I HAVE'T HAD A CIGARETTE!!!!!!!
I got a COLD at a home and garden show which I was selling glue to the public. Nothing tasted good even my smokes, so I decided to quit. I've quit many times before...I know the routine, three days physical withdrawals, two weeks mental, the rest is just maintenance. Wish me luck, I'm over the hump. With your help, I wish this is the last time for me.

Good luck. I truly hope you succeed.

I've tried many times in the past and have gone as far as 8 months once, but every time stress levels get extremely high I wuss out and reach for the crutch.

I've spent the last two months smoking ultra lights in preparation for another attempt to stop for good.

I look forward to reading a "four months without a cigarette" post by you thumbsup

All I can say is quitting smoking sucks, but apparently they say it's good for me in the long run.

4 years and counting.

Seriously all you have to do is tell yourself that you are not going to smoke anymore. This is the end. It's almost as if you have to deal with the loss of a good friend. There are no magic bullets or miracle cures. You decide to quit and that's it!

this past July was 4 years for me. I was a pack-a-day guy and was able to quit cold turkey.

Hexangler,
I wish you the best of luck in your venture!
Stay strong!
I too would someday want to quit... I have tried in the past, but as Metalstorm said stress always got me.
Best,
Peter

Hex,

Good on you! You will succeed!

I cold turkied(sp?) the caffeine and soda earlier this year. That was the most miserable time for me. Not from the soda, the headaches from the loss of caffeine input made me a miserable sob. Can't stand the taste of Mt.Dew or Coke anymore.

I quit smoking cigs 9 months ago using the patch to get me started. I have to agree with Johnnylunchbox. "Seriously all you have to do is tell yourself that you are not going to smoke anymore." Its not that you won't miss it sometimes but you need to not want to smoke them anymore. There are always good reasons not to light back up, just remember them in your times of desperation.
Best of Luck to all those who decide to do away with the cigs.

21 days for physical withdrawals to cease.

I recommend "the easy way to quit smoking" by Alan Carr.

CONGRATULATIONS . . . .

I quit years ago and "kinda" got started again . . . I was one of those smokers that real smokers hate. . . I'd smoke one maybe two cigarettes at night. Sometimes I'd go for a couple weeks, then buy a pack ans smoke while I was pheasant hunting.

A couple years ago I watched my wife's dad live (not really the right word, more like be alive) his last couple years after smoking since age 11 when he came from Italy on the boat. . . .

I vowed to never put myself through that.

Congratulations.

7 months 23 days 13 hours 42 min.

Quit many times before with the patch. Used the gum this time and liked the control it gave me. Don't even think about it much anymore. I really feel like its going to stick this time.

Good luck! I know it is hard.

Congrats Hex.

I am going on 3 weeks now.
I used Chantix to get me through the first week. That stuff works GREAT.

One thing that I thought about doing (but have not yet), is writing the most important reasons for quitting on a small, wallet-size paper. Keep this list with you at all times. When you want one, just take the list out and read it, out loud if need be.

Also, don't fall into the "Oh, I can have just one and be ok" trap. It doesn't work... I have busted that theory about 4 times in the past.

Congrats!! Its a pain at first but you can do it!! Try to change your habits as much as you can. The drive to work went with a cup of coffee and a smoke, so I had to quit that first cup-o-joe for awhile but it helped......

Ratyson, any info you can share about Chantix would be great. My wife has the prescription sitting there but has some concerns about the side effects.

Hex, you can do it! I got away from those gag sticks in 1990, cold turkey. Every morning I would tell myself that I'm not smoking today. Good luck & stay strong.
