It's worth remembering, Cafe Racers, Streetfighters, Jump Jets, Hovercrafts, Sports Cars, Tanks........in fact everything that moves, was all invented by us Brit's.

There, that feels better.

My first car: 1948 British Racing Green MG TC

My first Motor Bicycle: 1957 Norton Dominator 99 in Polychromatic Grey.

Back then, we didn't know any better.

Didn't take us long to figure it out though.

England for haberdashery.
France for wine.
Italy or Germany for motorized transportation.

Still pretty good advice, come to think of it.

Actually, Danny, I DID have a Fiat!

It was a 1956 Fiat 600, so I guess that might make me one of the very the first Bad Webbers to own a 600 cc. inline water cooled four !

ddd

I don't remember too much about it, except that it was surprisingly good in the snow considering its country of origin, and it had an rather annoying habit of simply stopping every now and then.

Normally it just need a bit of a rest, and the journey would continue. I don't believe I ever figured out why.

The best part about it was that it was so small, one could drive it down the sidewalks, and sneak up on unsuspecting friends.

I don't think I ever bought another one.

Fiat or 600 cc inline watercooled four, that is.

My grandfather had a fleet of british roadsters, convertibles and sports cars, the only one that ever ran was the 68 MG that he rewired and dropped a 283 chevy in. Love the style of the brit stuff, I would not want the electrics or tooling of the brit stuff.

Remember the old one?

Why do they drink warm beer in England?

Lucas Makes the fridges!

Had a MG and the thing would leave you in the dark 20 miles from anywhere at 2:00 AM. BUT it was a blast to drive...when it ran.

My MG Midget was so fun to drive, I only wish it felt the same about being driven.

"Actually, Danny, I DID have a Fiat!"

So did we when I was a kid. My father broke a cardinal personal rule with this car, "Only buy cars from the country you live in", and picked this little gem up for the gas mileage when we lived in Omaha, Nebraska.

It eventually caught fire and burned to the ground. I don't think he put any effort in putting the fire out... even though it left him stranded in the snow on the side of the road... in Chicago.

Oddly, his cardinal personal rule about cars does not include motorcycles... he has only ridden Japanese motorcycles his entire life.

Not to worry Wayne,

NO ONE would ever aspire to be as cool as a Triumph Mayflower owner.

Never happen.

Here's why.........

I think the reason my father thought the Fiat would be a good idea was because of this car...

We had this little car when we lived on Okinawa. My father didn't think it would be prudent to bring it to the States. Okinawa was quite a culture shock... the speed limit on the island was 35mph. The car my family had when we got there was a 1968 Dodge Charger.

When I was in the Army in Germany in '74 my friend had one of those DKW 3 cylinders, we called it "the sewing machine".
I briefly had a Fiat 124 at that time.

cant seem to find a good pic to snap up and link, but I have always liked the flat track style more than the cafe, probably my favorite is the Scrambler by Jesse Rooke. (not paying the money for his, but it would be a nice one to have in the garage) of course with the Buell XB12 motor rather than the harley 88

Speaking of DKW's. Here is a Swedish Monster some 40 years previous to the Italian offering!
